Re: I guess I’m just not a big fan of DCO’s

I have, however, had a whole host of DCO synths - Junos, JX's, P600 , Matrix 6 and 1000, MEK. P600 is VCO. Yeah and a very powerful sounding VCO at that, it will eat all the DCOs mentioned along side it for lunch. I'd take a P600 with all its limitations for a P'08 any day... in fact I have. It jus...

Decent price on a microwave 1 over here:

I kinda want it but I've got enough stuff and I suspect that I like the idea of the synth more than I would like actually using it...

Re: I guess I’m just not a big fan of DCO’s

The implementation of DCO is different on many synths and many DCO synths do sound different and I've not tried them all. The Jen SX-1000 is technically a DCO monosynth but it is discrete as well. So the tuning source for the oscillator is digital but the oscillator, as I understand it is discrete c...

Re: MS-20 mod wheel cable

Yeah, I can see the boards but I can't see any connectors to plug it into I guess I will have to further dissassemble it as you suggested.
Thanks!

MS-20 mod wheel cable

So this MS-20 has a loose mod-wheel cable. taking off both side panels it isn't obvious to me where it should plug back in. Any help?

Re: I guess I’m just not a big fan of DCO’s

Hate to say it and I’m not trying to be snarky (I couldn’t think of a better word, sorry) but… I believe the difference between VCOs and DCOs is a bit overrated... …So says the guy without a VCO synth. When I started my endeavor into synths I thought the VCO and discrete stuff was a bit of a myth. I...

Re: I guess I’m just not a big fan of DCO’s

I guess it would be helpful if I mentioned some of the stuff I’ve owned for comparative purposes. Prophet ’08 – really great flexibility , lots of knobs and the great DSI sequencer, more usefully stacked as a 4 voice for decent thickness, I don’t know if I’m come across a more bland analog filter… p...

I guess I’m just not a big fan of DCO’s

I thought I’d start a controversial thread. The other day I had the epiphany that none of the DCO synths I’ve ever owned have ever done much for me and none have been keepers. Granted, there are a lot of DCO synths I haven’t tried. I don’t think they are bad, I can find merits in every single DCO sy...

Re: KORG MS-FEST ... MS-fans / links / pics / patches

Nice, keep this going. I just joined the MS fold for the first time and was looking for some resources for interesting ideas.

One of the mods over on GS is working on a DIY expander he is dubbing the MS-30 to add some nice features missing from the MS-20.

Re: Synthesizer's economic crises!?!

OK Esus, provide your analogy or model for your point and I will pick it apart and tell you why they aren't similar. I thought the Roland and Stradavarius examples made a good point, but OK, let's compare a Minimoog with a DX7. Assume that S & D is based on scarcity versus desire, and add perceptio...

Re: Synthesizer's economic crises!?!

OK Esus, provide your analogy or model for your point and I will pick it apart and tell you why they aren't similar. It's easy to be on that side of a debate, that how creationists write books to "disprove" evolution, by attempting to pick apart evolution rather than actually stating a real hypothes...

Re: Synthesizer's economic crises!?!

I see what you’re saying but I don’t think it’s that cut and dry. It’s also a “pet peeve” of mine when people say things like “supply and demand 101” as if there aren’t a lot of factors involved. Supply and demand is a intense subject and while on the surface the idea of “X amount of people want and...

I had different expectations of the Sherman before I got one. IMO It's really more of a really nice modular distortion box than anything.

Re: Tom Oberheim SEM VS Little Phatty

I haven’t tried the SEM yet but I haven’t heard anyone say they didn’t like the tone. The demos sound really nice. It’s very simple though and I think you might consider buying a doepfer beauty case and a few extra euro modules to broaden its functionality (assuming you get the modular version). The...

Re: Synthesizer's economic crises!?!

Well you know how these threads go, it’s all speculation anyway but I’ll give it a go. Things can only increase exponentially for so long. The US housing market is a prime example. Of course, while it is happening many think that it will continue and want to get in before the prices jump even more. ...
