This is the Depeche Mode "Fairlite"

(Open this new thread appart from "Depeche Mode Gear" as this question has its own relevance) Just spending some free time at job, I decided to seek what is that Martin Gore "Fairlite" keyboard. It was said it is a Yamaha (portatone or early CS painted series even). But it is not. Thanks to a youtu...

Re: Receiving a bulk dump on DX7 II-FD

As far as I remember, you only have to set Memory Protect ("internal") to OFF -talking from memory, it is in TUNE function, around #12 or #14 voice key? I am not in the studio-. Also, check the MIDI RX channel.
Then, send data to the DX and it would be enough.

Best..

Re: What specifically is special about the DX100?

DX100 engine = same as DX27 or DX21 (this one bi timbral). they have 16 bit DAC, so a DX7 II with 4ops on can reach the very same sound.

But the DX7 Mki sounds slighty different.

Re: Duran Duran & Arcadia: Guess the synths

Hey. I know I am a little bit lazy. I've got Arcadia album on Vinyl but have not connected my turntable :(. I don't hear that album long time ago so I don't remember well the sound of that songs. The only ones I recall from memory are: 3: Jupiter 8 9: jupiter 8. Not a good answer, but less is nothin...

http://weltenschule.de/TableHooters/picts/Casio_MT-70.jpeg [/quote] I've got one of these. It was my first "serious" keyboard back in 1985 for playing in my first (and one of the last) serious bands. It sounds really thin. It can even being annoying, because altought it has around 20 different soun...

Re: Favorite synth sounds

iprog, I guess we both are right:

Extract from Recoil Website Questions & Answers:

Q: Is it a mini moog bass we hear on 'World In My Eyes', 'Halo', and 'Enjoy The Silence' ?

A: Again, can't remember exactly -most likely a combination of moog and Flood's Arp.

Re: Favorite synth sounds

Just a few Depeche Mode references here..
Altough they used to play samplers a lot, they did some interesting synth sounds too. Just for example:

"World In My Eyes" bassline , done with some layers including a minimoog.

Re: D-20 illegal disk

I have the same problem into a DX7 II floppy drive. It is Probably a drive fault, altough it could be a bad disk too as said before. You should replace the drive.

Re: DX7IID key contact help

Yes, it sounds like a key contact bent (or broken). DX7 contacts are two metallic pieces with a central "tongue" which makes contact with one or the other side. The most recommended thing is to reach the bottom of the keyboard (removing the back panel) and checking the "tongue" for that faulty key. ...

Re: DX100 presets

Hi Robin and welcome. First of all, are you sure you are switching it right? AFAIR you should press +1 YES/ -1 NO buttons (one at once) while holding INTERNAL, for switching between normal and "Shift" presets area. If you are doing right, it is weird, because that presets are ROM. So you can't erase...

Re: My adventure with JP-8000

I have experienced some asteriscs issues, but just only when touching the case on some points. I guess the plastic packaging mess with sliders and pots, and just a small vibration in one of these can make a variation. Not annoying in my case, rarely I have that issue. And I thought it sounded plasti...

uff, no idea. It sounds very analog to my ears.
It reminds me some early DM songs. Maybe a Jupiter 4?

Re: Silver DX7?

Yes WDW, agree with this could be a stripped one. Vid is not clear, but it seems to be a metallic surface. I don't like that colour, I choose the brown chocolate instead (May I be the only one who like it?). And the only thing I love the most are the green membrane buttons. While no cracked membrane...
