Re: what type of synthesizer do you suggest?

Right, rather than chuck a load of models at him, let's have a look at the options. There are Analogue synthesizers, and there are "Virtual Analogue" synthesizers. I assume you're gonna want something polyphonic (which can play more than one note at a time) so i'll explain them. Back in the 80's Ana...

i like these guessing games :)

The transient could indeed be sampled, however, it might just be a quick pitch envelope, anyhow, that sound shouldn't be too hard to do either way :)

Re: That 80s Digi-Brass. DX7? Sample? Analogue?

i dunno it sounds a little too "good" to be one of those awful 80's sampled brass patches. I'm gonna guess it was the oberheim, you could get this sound with a VA or an 80's analogue/digital hybrid too, my matrix 6 has a very similar patch :) anyhow, the good news is that you could get that sound on...

Re: A bit of Mono/Poly Action

I still think the Mono/Poly is one of the best synths (analog or otherwise) ever made. Your awesome video proves this to be the case. Well done! It is definitely one of the best. A really superior design and sound. And, elmosexwhistle's portrayal is frickin' awesome. I find myself singing it to mys...

Re: A bit of Mono/Poly Action

Thanks so much for the kind words everyone :) I got that clip off youtube from typing in "break dancing" so i'm not sure what film it comes from, all i knew was that it was about the right speed and i could really mess it up :)

Best solution for setting up my smaller keyboards.

So my studio is pretty tidy now, and i have all my big synths on stands and i've got a good workflow. My only problem is, i've got a load of really cool toy keyboards (see sig list) lying around and the only real way I use them is thus: 1. Grab toy keyboard 2. Plug in and put on desk 3. Play in the ...

A bit of Mono/Poly Action

Morning fellas, my last video, centred on the Poly 800, was so well received that i thought i'd make one for the Mono/Poly. Hopefully i've managed to showcase the massive breadth of sound this instrument can create. Enjoy!

Re: Korg Mono/Poly vs SCI Pro One

My mono/poly was just shy of £1000, a teeny bit pricey, but then again, it was fully serviced, recapped and the VCO's changed out. It now warms up in under 5 minutes and looks like it's just come out of the factory 1982!

Re: MS2000 vs AN1X?

http://m.matrixsynth.com/2007/08/yamaha-an1x-demo-via-elmosexwhistle.html i did this demo a while back, it's a bit of a cult classic by now! these patches push the boundaries of what the an1x can do, achieving what seems like 3 or 4 voice multi-timbrality out of a bitimbral synth, and shows you how...

Re: Korg Mono/Poly vs SCI Pro One

i'd just like to add an important fact to this topic. It has often been said that the Pro One destroys the mono/poly for bass. This is not really so. With all the oscillators set to saw/pwm and to 100% volume, then detuned, it will make a nice mid-range 80's analogue sound, but not really very bass-...

Re: The Poly 800 Appreciation Thread

thanks for the nice comments everyone :) i'm getting me mono/poly next week so will be doing a demo for that too! The roses sequence sent cutting chills down my spine. that's a reworked, minimalist version of the chorus to "Roses": http://soundcloud.com/elmosexwhistle/elmo-sexwhistle-roses Totally c...

The Poly 800 Appreciation Thread

The Korg Poly 800 is a much maligned synth, yes, it's built out of cardboard, yes, the parameter resolution is about 5-bit, yes, it only has 1 filter for all 8 dco's, but the thing sounds beautiful! Some folks seem to think that it sounds like a $10 casio but i hope in my video demo that i can prove...
