Re: The most influential electronic instruments of all time?

The documentary was The Instruments that Changed the Music Forever, unfortunately I can't find the complete release data (it seems to have been pulled off Youtube as well) Anyway, the general consensus is, in order of appearance: Hammond B-3 organ, EMS VCS3/Synthi (arguably the first truly portable ...

Re: How is Oberheim Matrix-6 still so cheap?

The problem with all of these synths is that they're DCO. You might need to re-evaluate your idea of "fat". You can get "fat" from DCO as well. In my opinion it bolis to a different thing, a free running Oscillator vs. retriggered one - a retriggered one will start from identical phase no matter th...

The Revolutions has been done to death: that's D-50, there's a bank floating on the net that contains all the programs JMJ used there (and Calypso). As for the Calypso sound, can you provide an example? Youtube video? --OK, found La Defense on YT, you mean that S&H arpeggio-like sound? It's either S...

Re: MIDI synth to reproduce classic vintage synths

What's your budget? If you like Moog, there's a lot from Moog itself (MM Voyager, Phatty, Model D) - if you're low on cash, Behringer is about to release MM clone. Then there's Dave Smith for Sequential Circuits (Prophets etc.). Also you have analog synths and VA emulations from Korg (MS series, ARP...

No, it does not. It has 61 semi-weighted full-size keys.

Re: I have a soft spot for...

It's probably no secret that I have a soft spot on Wavestation. In fact I love this synth to death and use it despite Motif XF taking over the most recording, even despite its flaws.

Re: Synth lead question

Adding to Big Gnome's reply: why don't you try and get your hands on ANY synthesizer with basic programming abilities. For now you're just collecting useless trivia that doesn't seem to push you forward. The sounds in question are easily reproduced on any synthesizer that can use two oscillators per...

Question #1: The demo presented here covers... ummm... about 98% of synths available on the market - both S+S, VA and analog, too. What is that you're really after?

Actually, the Yamaha DX200 is an easy to use hardware 4 op FM synth with a filter.
Or, for roughly the same price, TG77 would

Re: Couple Q's for those who know their way around a Motif X

- i want to get better at really skewing and bending the sounds it has, so do i really only have 2 options with adding effects to each instrument (insertion A & B?) First you need to understand the effect structure of Motif: you have 8 insertion slots that can be applied to maximum of 8 parts/seque...

Re: Lead Synth on A-Ha's Take on Me?

I politely beg to differ. I'm almost certain that's a DX7 bell/piano-type patch with LFO assigned to pitch. The bass line is the DX7's Bass 1 preset. It's been a while and I have only a vague recollection what was the thing discussed, but I believe it's the chorus bell/pad thingy. When they were in...
