Re: What keyboard synth is this?

I believe that's not a synth - it's M-Audio ProKeys 88 master keyboard/digital grand

Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)

1) The synth that made you want to play music: Rhodes Chroma Polaris on "Masters of the Universe". 2) Your first synth: Vermona Synthesizer 3) The synth that has surprised you most: Yamaha TG77 - very expressive and thorough to program. 4) The synth that has disappointed you most: Casio VZ, to quot...

Re: What is the purpose of "Recapping" a synth??

solid state caps What are they? AKA polymer caps. their specifications have changed uniformly together - introduce new ones and the balance that was held for these years might be broken. Poetic. But wrong. The change is random, not uniform. Out of spec is out of spec. Sometimes it's kind of cool. B...

Re: What is the purpose of "Recapping" a synth??

So, recapping of my vintage 1979 Yamaha Cs-40m would be a good idea then. Yes, recapping to solid state caps is always a good idea, however - be prepared that the synth might sound a little odd at first - not bad, but different, and might in fact not have prolonged life. As one electronics repairma...

Isn't DJ-X a MU50 in disguise (like CS1x)? Send an XG bank select MSB/LSB and/or program change, and you get multitimbrality. I believe channel 1 is a default reserved for "panel" instrument.

Re: Your lifelong equipment list

Starting from the very beginning: 1990: Casio SA-1 1993: Yamaha PSS-590 (traded for...) 1994: Yamaha PSR-38 (gave it away to a nephew) 1995: Vermona Synthesizer (broke it) 1996: Yamaha QY-10 (sold to a friend) 1998: Yamaha CS1x (still with me although getting more broken each year) 2002: Kawai K1m (...

Also Jean Michel Jarre is notorious for "dedicating" his albums to certain synths: Rendez-Vous showcases Synthex, Revolutions and Waiting for Cousteau - D-50, and Chronologie for 01/W

Re: What synth is used in the gold HQ scene in Blade Runner?

It sounds like it is clearly a monophonic synth. In fact, because of that recording, I always assumed the CS80 had a mono or unison mode. They sort of do, and it's switchable with sustain switch. Basically it makes envelope retrigger on a single voice instead of releasing the voice and switch to ne...

Re: Technics KN901 for $140

Enjoy...
There are a few videos of KN901 on YouTube.
It's nothing to write home about. A typical GM rompler with built-in effect processor. Pianos are nice, brass is OK, but the strings are really bland and crappy.

If you're after a home keyboard, save more for some Yamaha PSR or newer Casio.
