Re: Mono-only setups

Except for the R3, I am mono at the moment. And I only use poly for the R3's vocoder.

Sequenced monosynths have a certain magic about them.

Re: DSI MoPho

I got a MoPho last week. It is sitting happily next to my Evolver.

I don't think the interface is that bad. The sound is similar--I haven't had it long enough to discover it's "voice".

Anyway, it fills a hole in my setup. And it does so at a bargain price.

Re: DSI MoPho

I hope DSI make a lot of money from this synth, but I'm not gonna buy a synth that's made for preset bashers and is just an evolver with all the good stuff taken out. Seriously, something with no edit matrix on the front? It's like a freakin Micron*. * Yes I'm aware the Micron has sold heaps and so...

Re: Your philosophy in building a studio setup?

I try to avoid making music with computers too.

All my synths are hardware, preferably small and easy to move around and reconnect in new ways. Timbre is the most important feature. Followed by interface.

Everything else (workflow, style, genres, goals) keeps changing.

I have the Dotcom converter. It is minimally sufficient, but I wish I had something with more features.

I would get the MOTM-650 if it ever comes back in stock. Also, some of the Flame stuff looks cool.

I sold the MS2K after getting the EMX. While they don't sound exactly alike, the EMX sounds more like the MS2k than the ESX. I like that the R3 sounds Korg like, but not microKorg like. It has it's own vibe; the R3 is not a replacement for the microKorg. I think the only thing the R3 is missing is ...

I had an MS2000 and I prefer the R3. But I think the LP sounds awful, so what do I know.

CS-30 $1320 w/shipping (pre-1990) With persistance you can do better than that I think. I had to list my CS-30L twice just to get a little more than $900 shipped. It was in nice shape. The CS-30's i've seen listed on ebay for over a $1000 are generally re-re-re-re-re-re-listed. Than again, I don't ...

Today was my first day to really dig in to the R3. I'll post a detailed review in a few days.

So far I really like it. They fixed most of my gripes with the MS2000. :)

Hey, that is a cool synth. If Evolvers weren't on the market, I would totally be gassing for one.

Line level signals are lower power then CV. I do this all the time and never have a problem. If you turn it up to high you just end up with a distorted input signal.

However if the input signal is high enough, like from a power amp, it will fry your devices.
