 "Fat" is arbitrary. Some use the term to refer to harmonic distortion, some use it to refer to drift and others ascribe something ineffable to the term. Yes, but just because some people called synthesizers organs, it did not mean that they became organs or lost their definition because of a...

Some Electribe EA-1 / ER-1 demos That is awesome. Those were so un-electribey. un-electribey? to me it actually took a while before I stopped fooling around making ambient sounds and sounscapes not unlike this and got to make more dance/beat-oriented music like most people use their electribes for....

Awesome thread. I have always been curious about the Alpha Junos. I have a question. Can you route the oscillator to mod the filter cutoff? How about the sub-oscillator? no and no... that would be very un-roland like behaviour  I suppose that is why I don't own any Rolands. HA! Too bad, audio ...

The best way I've found to portray the elusive and subtle quality is to tell people to listen to synthesizer recordings of the 60s... when it was basically synthesizer straight to tape... and compare those recordings to the synthesizer you have. There is a difference... a quality... that is lacking...

Yep, that is exactly how I feel about it. I am reorganizing the setup this weekend, and taking the keys out of the rotation. I think it will be ok, but it seems like cheating.

Keyboardlessness

Stab's post about quality vs quantity got me thinking. My least used piece of gear is my CZ1. But it is my only set of keys. Getting rid of it would give me desperately needed space, but I would be keyless.

Does anybody else have a setup with no keyboard?

I am pretty happy with the ancillary equipment I have and the time I purchased it. The biggest problem I have with my setup is space. To that end, I kinda wish I had a small format modular. My dotcom modular takes up 1/4 of my workspace. One of those Doepfer suitcases would be much smaller. I don't ...

You are correct in a sense.

Grooveboxes need to evolve to compete with computers. We, as musicians, want new sounds, new interfaces, and new ways of making music. Computers are better serving those needs, for the moment. But that can change.

I wouldn't be surprised if any new electribe would be both sampler and synth based... And a polyphonic sequencer at last?? I still think they'd incorporate a kaoss pad type f/x interface too. Perhaps another option would be just to re-house the radias into a sequencer box, but wouldn't that be pret...

I have had few problems using the Evolver. But it was my first synth. It is worlds more complex than the Nord. I think it would be a good compliment to a blofeld, but save up for a MEK if you can. The matrix gets frustrating sometimes Espically playing in a dark room. That said, most of the time it ...
