Way off topic sorry!- I've been thinking about wavetables/wave synths lately (as many of you) and particularly the VS. Could you take 2 evolvers and put the outputs from one into the input pf the other as the input osc - and then set this up as all digital oscs (4 in total) and have a pseudo VS by ...

The funny think is that I know guitarists who have a solid electric with humbuckers, a tele-style solid electric, a semi-hollow electric, a steel-string acoustic, a nylon classical and a bass, and no one blinks. Yeah but that makes total sense to me. I have been playing guitar a lot longer than syn...

For too long I never turned on my computer when writing.... bored/hated to sit in front of a screen (all the reasons we love hardware ect....) but now that I force myself to turn on Live everyday I've found that I have actual songs in the can - and am happy. Sorry for the rant... I love hashing thi...

You need one good one. Owning more than one is a luxury. True. Unless it is a monosynth and you can play with 2 hands. I don't know how many synths you need, but I do know that once you've found the synths you need, you feel like you don't need any other synths, let alone a lot of them. Yeah,...

Re: How many synths does a man need?

To me this seems like two questions: a) How many synths does a man need qua musician (which is highly individual), and b) How many synths does a man need to have covered (roughly) all the as yet existing main functions of sound synthesis. b) is interesting. The modular can do subtractive, (a little...

But why do u have to b single ?

My first mixer was a Behringer. I thought it sounded ok at the time. It broke after 2 years. I replaced it with a Mackie that sounded worlds better. I didn't realized how noisy the Behringer was till I ran my music through something else. Behringer is usable, but Mackie is waaay better. Mackie costs...

How many synths does a man need?

I used to think the answer was 4. I was thinking in terms of 4 part harmony. Plus, it seemed like a good number coming from the guitar world. Now I have 4 synths (not counting grooveboxes). I spend 90% of my time with two of them, the modular and the Evolver. I am thinking about getting rid of the o...

Yeah, you are. You can call me a fool if you want; I don't care. But don't diss James, he is probably the most respected guy on these forums. Nobody here will take you seriously if you do.

I like using the Evolver as a drum machine! Though, it would probably get old after 2 or 3 songs.

So many cool synths. So much hating.

OTOH, maybe one of the haters will start his own synth company. It wouldn't be the first time.

I would like to see some kind of sampler/grain/wavetable/vector synth. Maybe it could have a touch pad and some hot keys instead of rows of knobs. And I like Stab Frenzy's idea. I didnt think there would be so many suggestions for mainly digital synths, Im open to a hybrid, but I dont like VA synth...

Well, I am probably saying this way too late, but... I don't listen to much synth music from the seventies, eighties, or nineties. It doesn't excite me. I didn't start likening synths till the last few years, and I think that is largely due to that fact that there weren't many synths I liked till re...
