Re: Six D-50 Patches for ID (Italo Disco)

I have the SQ-80 and a D-550 and like Italo Disco/ Euro Disco as well. I listened to all of those sounds and many of them sound like what are on the Roland factory cards. Although the first Roland card ("PN-D50-01") mostly goes for +$65, you can get cards 'PN-D50-02' through 'PN-D50-04' for around $...

Oberheim DPX-1 loading problems

I just received this Oberheim DPX-1. I have several 3.5 floppy disk (ensoniq mirage disk which are all brand new) and tried loading them. I put the 3.5 disk into the drive and press "load", the 5.25 drive starts churning and then I get the "nd" (no disk) message. Is there a way to make it check the ...

Re: pee wee's playhouse ending credits

I'd hate to see this post fade away. I may have an answer to the original question, I just had to dig through my old KEYBOARD magazines from the late 80's. In the March 1987 issue of 'KEYBOARD', on page 28 there is an article titled: "PEE WEE'S PLAYHOUSE: MUSIC MADNESS BY MOTHERSBAUGH, ELFMAN, & RUN...

Re: Come Back And Stay - Paul Young.

I just listened to the song on youtube.
The sound reminds me a bunch of the "MAYS PAD" from the Roland JX-8p and Super JX.
That would be one way to get that sound. Wish I could help more.

Re: Broken Ensoniq mirages (DMS-8) on ebay

I love Syntaur! I have all of their floppies for my SQ-80, and their programming is top notch. Not to mention their stuff arrives in just a few days (usually 2-3). I hear the floppy drive on the mirage can be replaced. What is inside the mirage anyway? Is it basically just a board and a floppy drive...

Broken Ensoniq mirages (DMS-8) on ebay

I've been looking to buy a rackmount Ensoniq Mirage for several months now. The overwhelming majority of them on ebay don't work, or you hear the seller say: "Well, I just don't know how to test it, so I can't offer returns" (a chickenshit excuse by the way). Anyhow, I would like to hear from the En...

Re: Which preset of the JX-8P can be heard in these songs?

I recognize that sound out of the 'Go West' song 'Eye to Eye', it's also used by 'Curiosity Killed The Cat' on their single 'Misfit'. Check it out, you can hear it 20 seconds into the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTBAbwXYsa0 I've owned both the JX-8p and the Super JX-10. I remember it being ...

Here's the most cheesy:

I can't think of any other song that used it so much as that one.
Apparently Eric Carmen REALLY liked that sound!

Re: Waldorf Microwave I or Blofeld?

One thing I thought I would mention while on the subject of the Microwave I, I have a review from the April. 1990 issue of KEYBOARD. The reviewer (Jim Aikin) gripes about the 'grunge' in some of the sounds. Which is interesting since that is more what I am interested in. Another amusing part of the ...

Re: Waldorf Microwave I or Blofeld?

I appreciate the feedback. I have tried the Wavesim on the 'hermannseib' website and I was really impressed. Actually, that version probably sounds better than the Waldorf software version based on my experience. It's interesting to hear that the Microwave I still has a little bit of grit in it, I w...

Re: I got an ESQm!

Cool man,

Yup, it's a fun synth, I have the SQ-80 model.
You can find a gazillion free sounds online for it,
there's a company out of south Texas that offers some excellent patches as well:

http://www.syntaur.com/esq.html

I own every patch they make and the programming is superb.

Waldorf Microwave I or Blofeld?

If anybody has used both, could you tell me which one has a closer emulation of the PPG 2.3?
I use the software (PPG 2.V) and it's quite nice, but I would like a hardware emulation as well.
If anybody has an opinion on this, I'd be interested to hear it.
-Thanks :D

Re: im in love with my JX8P

Oh yeah, I had a JX-8p (and later a JX-10) for a while and enjoyed the sound of them both. Obviously the keyboard action was garbage, but I MIDI-ed them to other synths and all was well. I think people are starting to wake up to the JX's awesomeness, check out how much this clean JX-8p that was on e...

Re: So I'm Thinking of Selling my SQ-80

I honestly don't feel that trading your SQ-80 for a Korg MS2000 would be in your favor. Now this is going to depend entirely on the types of sounds you like to use. Remember that the SQ-80 can do alot of analog things as well as mid-80's digital stuff. Based on my time spent with the MS2000, it just...

Re: So I'm Thinking of Selling my SQ-80

It seems like ever since that one guy out of Lewisville (Texas) sold his SQ-80 on ebay for $700, everybody else has been listing theirs as well. I wonder if people are trying to get rid of them to buy a Blofeld Keyboard? I had thought of selling mine a few weeks back for that very reason, but this i...
