I downloaded Midiox, set it up so that it recognizes midi-usb, tried "dumping", but something still isn't working. I have a feeling that the TX7 only sends and doesn't receive data. Does the TX7 only send? I have the patches I downloaded from Dave Benson's DX7 page, I tried reading through all the "...

How to do "SySex dumps" with my TX7

Hello, I received a TX7 that had previously be initialized, so there are no preset sounds available. I have read through the TX7's sketchy manual and have tried (and failed) at using several SySex dump programs. I'm using a USB-MIDI adapter, but maybe I am using it incorrectly. Can anybody help give...

I owned a Matrix 6 for a short while and never found it very appealing. The keyboard felt awful, and I didn't care for the programming interface. The outputs always had a very low volume level and it was fuzzy to boot. I didn't care for the machine at all. Had a Korg M1 for a while, it has some nice...

Interesting topic!

This is all reading like a giant synth review on Sonic State.

To contribute, I really hate it when people describe a synth as:

"The poor mans _____(insert 'better' synth here)"

Cool! Yeah, The System is really great. I like their 2nd album 'X-Periment' the best. Z, I'm still enjoying the D-550, it sounds really warm for digital. I appreciate the great deal. It's so funny how there is a Waveterm hooked up to some gigantic unknown synth keyboard in the "You Are In My System"...

Larry Heard

Wow! Larry Heard, I really love his music the best! I also remember hearing that it was a Juno 6. I have emulated the sound spot-on back when I had a Juno 60. The drums sound like 707, and considering when the song was made, they probably were. I sure hope he tours the states again soon. Wonderful g...

I had an idea that this post was a reference to that particular John Foxx video. 3 CS-80's really is insane. Bitexion, out of curiosity why do you think the song is so shitty? I completely understand that using lots of expensive gear doesn't make a song good, just curious to hear your opinion though...

sell it

I had one for years, but after a while, every single sound started to sound similar. Every sound was either a compressed piano, or an ominous gawdy choir. Somebody mentioned selling it for a D-50, I did that and I really think the D-50 sounds more charming than the shitty m1 ever did.

Yet another chance to hype up a favoriate of mine.

I'll happily talk up the SQ-80 any chance I get :D I can't say enough good things about mine. The original battery from November 1987 still works, it produces beautiful Suzanne Ciani style bells and twinkles and Patric O'Hearn style PPG Wave pads, it can do cool Emulator/Fairlight style voice pads. ...

gotta be the MC-500

For a sequencer, I like using my Roland MC-500, even with the 'Engrish' manual, it was fairly easy to figure out and use. The screen gives enough feedback to make things clear.

Tarzan Boy

"Alex E", Which sound in Tarzan Boy are you referring to? The horn sound? I love how so many Italo tracks always use that same particular baseline, it's really rubbery and goofy sounding, the ensoniQ SQ-80 can do it fairly well. You know, for really awesome goof-ball Italo though, it's hard to beat ...

SQ-80s are cool.

Hey, good deal on the price! :P I really like my SQ-80! Its useful at making ProphetVS and PPG Wave type sounds. I like the industrial type bass noises it can create. The digital choir noise is very cool and sounds like The Fixx. I don't really like the horn and piano sounds that come out of it, but...
