That book (and the DX7II's) is essential. Unfortunately, rare as f00k too. I think the best course of action is to have a look a eBay, Alibris and Amazon from time to time. Or you can post a request on some DX7 Yahoo Groups. Who knows, maybe there is one that will sell his copy at a reasonable price.

I admit that I'm no expert of the European market but in North America, I know they range from $125-$250 US.

Persons like Hageir, Jack Spider, ItsMeOnly and other fine non-american VSE members might know the correct answer.

I've never had problems with my MS20 when the patchbay isn't being used, and the volume level is perfectly fine. I'd be inclined to say Maschinengeist is probably on to something here, but you may want to have a synth technician take a look at instead of messing with it yourself (unless, of course,...

You've got the service manual, right?

For the power supply adjustment (KLM-376)

1) Connect meter to J11 (J12=Ground): -15V
2) Check J50: +15V
3) Check left side of R54 (J39): +15V. Adjust KLM-376 VR2 if necessary

I read into the schematics that there is a OFF/LOW/HIGH selector (S7) for the output, have you checked it? And I presume you've read the values of the resistors in the output circuitry?

Next step, the VCA

Usually, a weak signal indicates a problem with either the VCO, LFO, VCF or VCA.

In this case, since the Headphone output seems ok, then I'd check the resistance values in the path circuitry. And while at it, check the filter cap too. Maybe the HPF/LPF Cutoff Frequency needs to be adjusted.

Which buttons? Digi-Key carry out a wide assortment of caps, pushbuttons w/ various colour LEDs. Pay them a visit. They have international websites: www.digikey.com I think you can find a fitting replacement (I did for other gears). Not 100% replicas but if you change them all, you can do something ...

No problem: Mouser.com offer a wide selection. The Qualtek model D is what you need. $2.90. Kobiconn Model F fits too but a bit more expensive.

And you can find such a cable in computer & electronics shops

Ok, let's dig deeper then. Do you have access to a digital multimeter? If so, check if there is juice flowing to the output (test different points from the PCB to the socket and the socket itself). If there's activity, the socket might be defective (it happens) and need to be replaced. Have you chec...
