Re: Why did D+B artists use EMU 4's if midi timing is bad?

There will never be a darker tune in the DnB genre other than the Source Direct - Stonekiller . It is a perfect example for proving that dark jungle is not all about Amen breaks and Reese basslines. Another classic of theirs. Clever use of Aphex Twin SAW2 sample on there too ;) I think Phil is stil...

Why did D+B artists use EMU 4's if midi timing is bad?

Been listening of late to some of my old Drum and Bass from mid 90's (Photek, Source Direct etc) and it's sparked my interest into picking up one the Emu E4 line of samplers which was used by both of these two acts. (Atually SD used E64, but's its a cut down E4) Looking around for info and specs on ...

Re: Delay times expressed as note values?

It's basic maths. Take the tempo in beats per minute eg. 120 This is in beats/minute, to turn it into beats per second you need to multiply by 1/60, because there's 60 seconds in a minute. So that equals 60/120 seconds per beat, multiply that by 4 to get the length of the bar, assuming your track i...

Re: Delay times expressed as note values?

Stab Frenzy wrote: It means your delay time is 5/12 of a bar long. If you know your tempo in bpm you can work out the length of the bar, then multiply by 5/12. Easy, no spending money required.
 sorry im a bit lost...

would you be able to give me a worked through example so as to see what you mean exactly?

Delay times expressed as note values?

All of my software delays let you set delay times as milliseconds, however i'm wanting to try something out but the main delay value ive been giving is "5/12th" What does this mean exactly? Also which budget hardware units allow you to set delay times as musical t...

Re: Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V Beta

Waiting for the new beast... anyway I think I will not sell my Microwave I rev A for this. That's what I "may" be thinking of...... not sure yet though. Would really love a PPG 2.2/2.3 but can't afford one, so got a MW Mk1 instead. So which out of the new plug-in or the MW will be closest to the re...

Re: Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V Beta

That's cool!!! Really looking forward to this one :D Im a MASSIVE Tangerine Dream fan and love all the PPG stuff on Exit, Logos, Hyperborea, White Eagle and Poland and I have a Waldorf Microwave 1 to cover those PPG type sounds. Just wondering if this plug will get closer to the actual PPG sound tha...

Re: Tangerine Dream Underwater Sunlight Synths

I love Tangerine Dream up to and including Poland and Firestarter but after that they went rapidly downhill IMO. I'm with them for a couple albums more... Flashpoint, Le Parc, Legend, Underwater Sunlight, Tyger, Near Dark, Shy People, Canyon Dreams and Lives Miles :D Then they went meh...... ...

Re: DX7 no "lmidi local off"

I've sniffing around and while i was looking for more info on the E! Grey matter expansion board for the DX7, i came across these following links.. First seems to be a DIY expansion that adds 4x memory to the DX7 Mk1, improves on the midi spec, and ads Local-off!! DX7 voice expander At the bottom of...

DX7 no "lmidi local off"

Im jonesing a DX7 for use as a master keyboard in my setup, due to my retro FM lust and also the excellent comments i've read on its keyboard action..... however there's a big problem as the DX7 does not allow you to set "midi local off". Is there a way to set this without having to install one of t...

Using electric guitar pedals with synths?

Is it ok to use electric guitar pedals such as chorus, flanger, phaser units etc with synths? So you have an audio cable from your synth output, going into the pedal, then from the pedal to mixer, soundcard etc. I was looking at some old Boss pedals to use with my synths. I seem to remember somethin...

Re: AHHH WHAT IS THIS SYNTH!!

That doesn't look like a synth as such, but a controller keyboard. I think it's an
Akai MPK49.
Probably connected up to some Laptop to provide the sounds via soft synths.

EEH CM-4 sequencer...
So how does this work exactly? Is it a pattern based or linear sequencer?
It looks like 4 rows of 16 steps, similar to an old Moog sequencer which Chris used in the 70's.
Would each row only be able to send monophonic data?
