Re: Would you have different synths without internet ?

I'll rephrase your question. Would I have different synths without VSE? Y'all have cost me a lot of money over the last 8 years  But seriously, if not for this site, my knowledge of synthesis and the sheer number of synths out there would be lacking.

Re: VSE Switched-on comp - July 2014

I'm going to have to sit this one out, but I'm looking forward to what others do. Since this is a classical theme, is anyone working with any of the classical temperaments, or is everyone just doing standard ET?

Re: Aesthetics of synths: effective marketing tool ?

I sure as h**l wouldn't want a Waldorf XTk next to a Nord Lead. Funny you should mention that. I've never let aesthetics influence what I buy, but I've thought about it. And since my girlfriend has a tendency to decorate in purple and orange, I showed her pictures of the XTk and the Fizmo and told ...

My first synth was a Moog Rogue. First song I learned was The Cars' "Just What I Needed"

Re: Synth Horror Stories

The worst thing to happen to a synth was that I left a Moog Rogue set up in an un-air conditioned storage unit my band practiced in. In the summer. In Florida. I guess I was really lucky, but it never had any major problems after that. The worst thing I ever did to an instrument was an old Baldwin o...

Re: Why the V-Synth is the best thing Roland ever did

Check out Silver Facet on the Disco competition that just concluded. One of the main riffs uses a sample of a pot lid for part of the sound. I didn't do anything too crazy to the sample, but it's about all I can offer at the moment. I'm sure others here can chime in with some good sample mangling.

Re: VSE Disco competition VOTING THREAD

I like the stories behind the songs. Here's mine. Song: Silver Facet Influence: Sometimes I'll pick a synth at random and look for videos on Youtube. I recently searched "Waldorf Wave" and ran across a song by Max Mazzotta. I can't remember what it's called, but in the middle of the song, another ri...

Re: VSE Disco competition VOTING THREAD

I'm really interested to hear what was used on Silver Facet. Also, did you play everything live? It definitely doesn't sound sequenced, aside from the drums. The drums are sequenced. Linn Samples. Most of the rest of the song used a V-Synth and a Yamaha PSR-740. I used the arpeggiator a little bit,...

Re: VSE Disco competition VOTING THREAD

Silver Facet was my song. Thank you, Swayze for the vote, and thanks to everyone else who enjoyed it. The mix has always been one of my weak points. Quite often I find that if I mess with the mix too much, I just make things worse, so unless I have something specific in mind, I tend to leave the mix...

I'd definitely buy a copy. Heck, I'd buy CDs of all the VSE contests if they were available.

I don't know what's harder. Composing a song for the contest or picking a favourite. Everyone did a great job. And this is coming from someone who rarely listens to disco.
