I'm getting another M-audio 1010lt, so I'll have having in additions to 16 analog ins, 2 s/pdif ins. Only the thing is, I don't have any gear that uses s/pdif except my turntables which I won't want to have hooked to the computer constantly and I'd like to use these inputs for more synth recording; ...

There's no need for a poly if it's going to be a bass synth. Have you considered a desktop evolver? Not that I've used one, but hey, you're asking. It's what I'd go with.
