Re: Help me get my first synth

..... These two models would make for a good introduction to additive (constructimng sounds from scratch) synthesis. additive? you should check our definition. Additive synthesis is synthesizing sounds by adding in all the specific harmonics you want, usually with sine waves... As opposed to subtra...

No one needs to program, but if you start to a bit and get the hang of it, there's an adequate chance you'll never use presets again. I really doubt I'd own synths if you couldn't program them. Imo, there's something really satisfying about being able to create your own original, complex timbres. It...

I know my Kawai k4 has normal aftertouch, but I've never taken the time to see if it was poly. I'll give it a look then post results here.

You'll hate all the sounds. Get a midi to pc interface if you don't have one already (a cheap usb one might run you like $15) and just use it as a midi keyboard in conjunction with some softsynths on the PC. I started out with only an old casio keyboard and a got a lot of use out of it this way.

EA-1 has no accents or velocity sensitivity.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who gives a s**t, but it really does detract from it, imo.

Already been there with my Yamaha TX802. The BCR2000 won't work because it doesn't output sysex streams. The answer is the CME Bitstream 3x: http://www.cme-pro.com/en/product-detail.php?product_id=6 There are only a very few controllers that will send out sysex controls for older synth modules. The...

It's very possible, but you need to make sure the synth you want to use it with accepts messages in the various media the knob box transmits (sysex, ccs, nrpns)

The Casio CZs (not the 101!) have a pretty poor rep. Just picked up a CZ-3000 for little monies so I'll be checking it out when it arrives to see if there's anything to fuss about. :P Did you win the one listed as a "cx-3000" under electronic keyboards on ebay the other day? If so, nice find, I was...

the CZ series is nice, but i would take a VZ over a CZ any day. the vz is an incredible synth for its value. 110 is a steal. i can understand why they can sell cheap though - there are quite a few of them out there and this can be quite an unimpressive synth in the wrong hands. if you know what you...

Look into Kawais. They can be had for mad cheap and are definitely worth it if you can program.

The Casio VZ-10m. Are you man enough?

So, I've been looking into PD and FM synthesis for a while now. Given that I consider myself set as far as VA goes with my Nova, and lack substantial cash to get a desirable analog, I figured I'd see what I could do along the lines of Phase Distortion with around $120. Looking through various cz mod...
