Re: got an MV8800

hook up an external monitor and it's all left click/drag/etc... as opposed to button combos and menus - makes things a lot easier (to do and see!). I dislike working with computers and don't use them in my music making at all though I recognize their ease and power - the mv8800 is a nice compromise ...

Re: Korg Kronos vs Jupiter 80 (Roland)

Neither of them are my thing... but, they are both fully capable, top of line, modern boards for acoustic emulation and some other things (kronos wins for workstation features and the varied synthesis types). They sound great and are a gigging/studio musicians dream I would guess. The one thing that...

Re: Alesis Ion vs Korg MS-2000

very, VERY, V E R Y, different sounding synths - do some sonic research before you make a decision.

the interfaces will either appeal to you, or not... it's subjective.

Re: What makes a good Synth Sound Comparison Demo?

what synths are you comparing? I think you have a good list of things to compare there - my number one test is to try out a simple sawtooth waveform and sweep the filter at different res settings to get an idea of the synths inherent qualities - then I'll double and detune the oscillators to see how...

Re: alesis micron & akai miniak

I've always found the micron a breeze to program. For a beginner it may be a bit daunting though. Once you get a handle on all the shortcuts the left to right signal flow through oscillators, filter, amps, LFO's etc... is quite logical - a great little piece of UI design. I've said it before though ...

Re: novation x station

^^^ I'm not sure what this guy is talking about. The x-station is a k-station with a better keybed (with aftertouch), has more knobs for control, a display that is actually useful (you can't name patches on the k), the touchpad + all the interface stuff. The x can also read patches from the a/k/ks/v...

Re: VA synth

From what I can tell I think the microkorgXL/R3/Radias might be just what you are looking for (all share the same engine more or less) - they have that glossy/buzzy/tight (new korg) sound that really cuts through - analog sounding, but not really (!). Of the 3, I think most people would recommend Ra...

Re: Korg Poly 800 vs. Yamaha Cs.10

I recall reading that the poly-800 only has a square wave oscillator - and that the "saw" waveform is achieved by stacking/multiplying the square or something to that effect (?). I think this can account for why it always has a reedy/nasally/wheezy organ tone to it. I bought one a few years ago for ...

Re: Korg Poly 800 vs. Yamaha Cs.10

The Yamaha would sit nicely on top of the poly800 so you wouldn't have to bend over as much to play with it.
And, as an added bonus, the poly800 might get smashed eventually - win/win!

Re: Just got an AN1x - Anything I should know?

The jp8000 gives me a headache with midi as well - I never had a problem with the an1x. Definately check out the an1x yahoo groups - lots of info and patches etc... there. Somebody actually recreated the jp8000 patches for the an1x - it's interesting to compare the two. And, if you get an insane dig...

Re: AN1x vs Latest Crop of VAs

the casing does suck (keys are good though).
Unless you're looking at a virus or another boutique company - you're going to get c**p, plastic build quality. The larger manufacturers are an embarrasment - whatever happened to economy of scale?! Oh, yeah, capitalism happened.

Re: AN1x vs Latest Crop of VAs

I've always said the AN1x can't be beat - soundwise anyways. I used to defend the interface, and still do to a certain extent - it's quite good for only 8 knobs - but, I got a jp8000 recently and a knob per function is just dreamy. but, like I said, imo, the AN1x is the best VA i've ever heard/had (...

huh, sort of OT, but... I always thought jexus and elmosexwhistle were the same guy! was that your bank, elmosexwhistle, of an1x patches going around a while ago? I just passed them on to somebody who was looking for them again. I don't have my an1x anymore but I do remember there being some great p...
