Re: Alesis Micron or M-Audio Venom?

Nobody could really say how you would get along with it - we are all special and unique beings :!: You may get along with it, you may not. As I wrote above - generally, more knobby = more goody, but... that said, the interface on the micron is really quite ingenious for the limits that the designers...

Re: Alesis Micron or M-Audio Venom?

Personally, I'd stay away from the venom. The sound and build quality aren't really anything to write home about (especially the build quality), there is a lack of physical controls + you can't edit everything without a computer. If you are going to be hooked up to a computer then buy a midi control...

Re: Ensoniq Halo for $125 get it?

Try it out - that's a good price. It's basically an e-mu proteus 2000 put out by ensoniq - so, it accepts all of the e-mu expansion ROMS (4 slots) and has a nice synth engine inside that, with a little work, can get some good results. It is a little dated as far as quality of samples goes - but, hey...

Re: Virus Moog filters question

I'm a former virus owner, indigo 1 + 2, who didn't really get along with the inherent sound of them (thus, a former owner). I'm not sure if it was the oscillators or the filters but the virii just didn't jive with me... so, take this review with a grain of salt! I was excited to upgrade to the 2/C e...

hopefully that does the trick!
The new OS has a lot of shortcuts and goodies that are handy too.

Re: xl-7 issue

hmmm... I used to have a command station and it could handle anything I could throw at it. Best case scenario: you probably have something esoteric in the midi menu switched on or off impoperly - maybe try a factory settings reset to start from scratch (make sure not to reset the patterns though!). ...

Re: MPC1000 vs. RS7000 as sequencer

hey there, I've been through a few hardware sequencers in my time and I'm liking my current one: the Roland MV8800. It seems to be about as powerful as a sequencer can get and the ability to hook up an external monitor and mouse really speeds up a lot of processes for me (without leaving the standal...

Re: New guy here! A couple questions I have...

I too would say you have a lot more research to do before you go spending a bunch of money (possibly regrettably). Read the forums, read the reviews and listen to demos to better educate yourself about synthesis and you'll be able to better understand what tool will best help you "alter minds". Mayb...

Re: whats happened to the new linn drum

Lets change the subject.. . holy s**t you have a Siel Mono!?! Always been so curious about those.. hey, yeah - well, actually it is owned by a friend of mine. It's on "permanent" loan though! I quite like it (even if I don't play it much - sorry mono!) I may like it mostly because it has some serio...

Re: whats happened to the new linn drum

Some mods (I don't follow who exactly - and don't want to paint ALL with the same brush) killed this forum in the last few years with their micro-management (do we really need 11 sub-forums?!) and anger-management problems imo.

Re: Alesis Micron vs Akai Miniak

exact same synths (neither have aftertouch and both are transposable btw).
given the choice I'd go for the miniak - it has a bit better build quality imo (micron is known for faulty knobs and outputs) and has the gooseneck mic option right there.

the lambda is the other one at the store I was at - it's a great looking piece! I could imagine myself playing away while eating a tv dinner on top of it.

Re: Roland RS-09 VS. Sequential Circuits Prelude

are you in Toronto? I just saw those two boards used at L+M along with a korg delta and a few other vintage polyphonics - somebody must have dumped all their old gear.
I think they are overpriced though (which is odd, L+M usually has pretty fair used deals) - rs-09's can be found for a lot cheaper.

Re: Alesis fusion8hd question

I've had one for a few years now (the 6hd version) and I think it's an excellent board for the price they go for these days. How cheap is sorta' cheap? The good: The keybed with aftertouch is a joy to play (again, I have the 6hd synth action keys and not the 8hd piano keys - but, I've heard good thi...

Re: AN1x parts?

And, while we are on the subject... I've been wanting to replace the backlight on my an1x for a long time but I am afraid it may be a little too technical for me. Has anyone had any experience with this? Or, would anybody know if it would make a difference? I've read that the an1x backlight was alwa...
