Re: AN1x parts?

hey there, I've got the an1x schematics/part list somewhere that Yamaha Canada sent me when I had a question about a backlight replacement. I'll try and dig it up and send it to you soon. Yamaha Canada has always been pretty helpful - they have had su700 parts in stock and it seems like they could h...

Re: need a sequencer

the emu command stations are pretty good little sequencers in my opinion. Very easy to learn and intuitive to use (until you get into micro editing etc... on the tiny screen). It plays well with other modules and lends itself to a lot of live/real time tweaking/playing. I'd say steer clear of the mp...

Re: Korg reduces microSampler price

Those have been reduced to under $300 for a while now at the local long and mcquade in Toronto. Actually, a new, original microkorg is priced slightly higher than the microsampler AND the microkorg xl! I think Korg crossed the line when it comes to what people will accept as an acceptable build qual...

Re: E-Mu MP-7 patterns

Is the mo-phatt ROM installed in slot #1? Perhaps the patterns are looking for the patches in the wrong place?
Can you play patches from the phatt ROM manually?
Also, try assigning different patches (from other roms) to the patterns.

I hope something works!

Re: Help choosing a desktop synth

like others have said - the virus sounds like a good choice for someone only having one small synth (for now!) - lots and lots of sound mangling potential, great interface (design + build), good polyphony for a VA, multitimbral and it has effects for each channel. Check out the blofeld or micro-q as...

Re: Roland Sh 201 vs. Alesis Ion

keep in mind that the ion has a far, far deeper synth engine that greatly expands on your sound making possibilities.

Re: Your favourite synth demo track

I remember liking one of the demo songs in, of all things, the Roland SH32. There was even an (un?)intentionally hilarious disclaimer in the manual about it: "The second demo song (spank) is intended to introduce you to the expanded capabilities provided by the SH-32. Understand that this demo uses ...

Re: question about m audio venom

I see this topic come up quite a bit and I think the answer is simple. It's how, fundamentally, the sound is created - not the interface, not the intention of the developers and not WHAT sound is created - but, HOW. ROMplers use samples - stored in ROM. JD800 (despite all the sliders and the fanboy ...

Re: Crazy Idea: Wood sides for MS2000R

should be pretty easy and would look great.
When i had one I screwed just a couple of scrap pieces of mdf to the rack rails so that it could stand up on its own, unracked.
I'm actually in the process of wood-cheeking a few of my things.
Post pics when you're done!

Re: Micron UI vs CZ1000 UI

The micron is fine - the cz series were torture (i've owned both). People just didn't like that it doesn't have the knobs of the ion and didn't take the time to learn the interface. I believe the micron and the AN1x (another much maligned interface) had great interfaces for limited knobage. The inte...

Re: Alesis Micron or microKorg

oh, the micron is not that bad. It's actually quite a good interface for its knob/space limitations. Far better, imo, than the unreadable matrix style of the microkorg (where when you go to edit the filter the knobs labeled cutoff and res no longer correspond to cutoff and res! ridiculous!). One thi...

Re: Alesis Micron or microKorg

I'm not sure what you mean by "more editable". Both are fully editable from the front panel. The micron does have a much deeper synth engine than the korg - which gives you a lot more editable sonic possibilities. Also, the micron has an lcd screen (and a far more intuitive interface imo) which help...

Re: Korg Prophecy arpeggiator not working?

Not as good as my $150 prophecy! I think the cheapish plastic look to it makes some sellers think it's a toy (and the fact that it can only play one note - must be broken!). It's a fun synth - definitely download the parameter guide (it's the manual that the manual should be). here (i had a tough ti...
