Re: If You Could Have Just One Vintage Synth...

Matrix 12 or CS-80. The Matrix is the king of modulation. The CS is the king of expressiveness.

Re: Why do presets universally suck?

But therein lies the dilemma. I've heard folks rave about presets on certain machines, but those presets were horrific to me. Not that the programming of the patches was bad but, rather, that those particular patches (and associated genre of music) were not my preference. Ironically, the patches tha...

Re: Why do presets universally suck?

If you arrive at a point with an analog synth that you know that the analog synth in question is the perfect instrument for your personal tastes, then hopefully you learn to speak in the language of that synth... at which point, you begin to know how to get the sound you want without presets, memor...

Re: Why do presets universally suck?

As for preset-bashing, I see it like this... One either likes a preset or not. If so, then use it. If not, then replace it. It's all a matter of preference. That's true of course and I couldn't express it better. What bothers me a little though is that people tend to say "suck" instead of "I didn't...

Re: Why do presets universally suck?

Still 9X% of sold synths contain nothing but the factory presets. I always wipe my patches and reinstall the factory presets when any of my gear leaves my studio. But, yeah, I think that you are right. I doubt that most folks are like me. The majority of gear that I have bought secondhand co...

Re: Silver DX7?

Anyway, I think it looked very ugly. As opposed to the original brown colour? silver painted DX7 Not seeing any writing on the case and seeing how shiny it is and that there appear to be lines running horizontally along the surface, I assume that it is not painted but, instead, stripped. WD
