Prophet T8 Service / Repair

So I got a little further on the T8 and narrowing down where I think the issues may be... To start, I believe I have the 'pop' narrowed down to voice 4. I drop the filter to nothing, no decay, etc... and raise the cutoff just so I can hear the faint idea of a pitch coming through, and then I cycle t...

Re: Bought a Prophet T8... how alone am I?

I haven't been able to solve the problem yet but I did do a few things and came to some conclusions... 1. The power supply 15v rail was high by about 1/2 volt. Adjusted that back down to 15v. 2. I replaced the 2 op-amps in the output stage; didn't fix the problem. 3. I am noticing that as the unit w...

Re: Bought a Prophet T8... how alone am I?

Regarding the distortion, is it coming out both the Left Mono and the Right Mono outs, or just the summed Mono Out jack? The Left/Right are summed into the Mono Out through an op amp, isolating it to either the Left or Right side would go a long way toward figuring out the problem. If it's not dist...

Bought a Prophet T8... how alone am I?

Well now... https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4413/36177055074_8c9789c0dd_z.jpg Just picked this up yesterday at Main Drag in Brooklyn. Been there a while, kept eyeballing it. I had known about the T8 because of Joe Zawinul, and I really like the fact that it's weighted and has aftertouch, obviously am...

Re: Slight buyer's remorse on my Jupiter 6...

Since you mentioned the Prophet 5, IMO as good as it sounds it can't really touch the OB8 for those kind of sounds and lacks some common functions found on the Jupiter 6, OB8, and most other Synths. I'd instantly sell it to raise funds for a P-5 -- if a P-5 is what you always wanted to have, get yo...

Re: Slight buyer's remorse on my Jupiter 6...

I certainly don't consider it in the same league as the OB8/P5/JP8 class of analog polys... And that was exactly one of the things that hit me as I was playing it in the first few hours! Like, it's good , but sound-wise it really wasn't even touching the OB... This is good... keep 'em coming. Someo...

Slight buyer's remorse on my Jupiter 6...

I was hesitant to post this because it's such a first-world problem, and I really don't like when people complain (especially when they more than have the means to buy or own something) BUT this is a gear forum, and fortunately I'm in the right place to do it... I bought a Jupiter 6 about a year and...

How reliable are frequency counters on DMMs?

I bought this meter at Home Depot a couple years ago, it's a Southwire 11060s. I bought it more for electrical testing, not synth/bench work (for that I have an older Fluke that I like). Doing some calibrations here and there, and I realized I need (or should have) a frequency counter to get everyth...

Converting something from 220v to 110v...

...without using a step transformer, is it possible to do / advisable / not worth the risk? I know the knowledge on these units is few and far between but my Simmons SDSV brain runs at 220v and I've been using a step up transformer with it all along. It was more a curiosity of what is involved in ch...

Re: Ace Tone Rhythm Ace FR-3; inconsistent clock speed

I ended up replacing the power caps and cleaning out the speed pot real good... so far things are looking better than before. Still deciding if it's worth recapping the rest of the machine.

LOL, wouldn't that be a kicker. Guess there's only one way to find out!

Ace Tone Rhythm Ace FR-3; inconsistent clock speed

I'll start by asking if anyone has actual schematics or theory of operation of the FR-3 because I haven't been able to find any direct documentation on that model in particular... My FR-3 has one small issue where the tempo isn't consistent all the time and will sometimes speed up. This is an old ma...

Re: Arp Odyssey duo/mono mod switch?

Ok, so I'm bumping this over a year later because I finally got around to popping this thing open and trying the mod. Unfortunately, it did not work. Here's what happened - I guess in a way, it 'works' in the monophonic mode but didn't sound very good... it re-triggered the envelope on every note wh...

Re: Jupiter 6 w/Europa Troubleshooting

I would send a message to Jeffrey @ Synthcom to assist with this one. He usually replies in a day or two, and it's his product so I'd trust his answer.
