I like funky old mixers and usually pick up nicer ones but I've never paid more than about 100USD. Even had an old sunn console 16x4 with inserts on every chan, 2 loops and sweepable mids and only paid 40, iirc. Whether it's worth what you paid is something only you can decide. Its resale value prob...

not a shill, just a fan
If you're just looking for presets to poke and a fairly simple interface, wusikstation is inexpensive and sounds great. It can grow with you if you decide to get into deeper programming. http://www.wusik.com

Nothing right now is as good a deal as Late 90s Samplers. It's because most people think that they sound the same as softsamplers... Indeed. It is INSANE to me that you can get loaded S5000s all day for under $500. Even the S6000 with hot removable-face-action isn't much more. These things were tho...

Re: BUY DIRECTWAVE
It must be said that the newest versions of FL are much better for MIDI than the older ones though. Meh. I still can't easily use more than one controller at once. The sync to midi clock beta (read: alpha) executable they had was, what, three versions ago and went nowhere. It's just frustrating, mu...

Crackling is usually buffer underruns. If you don't have an ASIO card, you might want to look into download ASIO4all http://www.asio4all.com/ which should help.
Either way, try increasing your buffer size: http://flstudio.com/help/html/glossary_underrun.htm

OLD SKOOL S3kr3t
On a shoe-string, even. Furman gate = cheap as free, quad gate (qn44, iirc) = a little bit more, but four, four, four gates in one add cheapo drum machine. I use an old korg DDM-220, it doesn't sync to midi, but I don't really need it to. Route drum machine to KEY input on gate, set gate to trip whe...
