The U110/220s are great because they can be had for ridiculous cheap. The keyboard DXes are overpriced at this point, I think. A lot of people seem to pass on TX802s, and they're great boxes.

I've got to give it to Boss this year, the new space echo, the rotary sim and fender deluxe reverb are freaking awesome.

There was talk on the hardsid ML about the possibility of a USB hardsid, but I haven't heard anything since.

I like funky old mixers and usually pick up nicer ones but I've never paid more than about 100USD. Even had an old sunn console 16x4 with inserts on every chan, 2 loops and sweepable mids and only paid 40, iirc. Whether it's worth what you paid is something only you can decide. Its resale value prob...

What features are you looking for that FL doesn't provide? Why are you unhappy with it? That's what you need to think about before thinking about moving on.

Reason's nice because you can rewire it and just use it as a big softsynth rack, but I wouldn't use it alone, personally.

I love Yamaha's UIs generally, but it's a pretty common opinion that they're obtuse and tough to get around.
I think some of us are just as batshit crazy as the yamaha engineer's so it doesn't faze us.

Totally worth it though, it'll probably continue to be one of the most powerful hardware samplers ever made. I can't imagine anyone coming out with a new racksampler.

Crackling is usually buffer underruns. If you don't have an ASIO card, you might want to look into download ASIO4all http://www.asio4all.com/ which should help.
