It's a poor build quality, I can't stand scratchy sliders so unless it's well serviced it would be a pain to play and the duophonic keyboard drives me and a lot of people nuts. sounds like you have the knob in the upper right of the synth above the master volume turned on, it should be set to zero all the way left. if it's on at all then you are opening/turning on the vca just like on many synths you can drone or open the vca. first the cs-40m doesn't use standard cv/gate I believe it's trig so you can forget that test, second you have to have the oscillator's keyboard cv slider turned all the way up on all three oscs. if you have them centered at zero you'll get nothing, third if you have them turned down all the way the...

the m5 is a total monster for sure, but you're not going to find any new semi modular that sounds that good or vintage. there is no "new" arp 2600, minimoog or SEM even if you ask me ;) there will never be new stuff that sounds the same. Joey the macbeth modules don't offer nearly what the m5n has.....

I've owned two m5s and am about to sell my m5n so someone. They are IMO the best semi modular on the planet and one of the best basic analog synths ever made and the layout is much more user friendly than a pure modular synth. I'm only selling because I need teh monies the m5n has snappier envelopes...
