Re: What synth is used in the gold HQ scene in Blade Runner?

I don´t think there are tuned fifths in the 'Blade Runner Blues' patch. Also, when you listen with headphones you clearly hear the oscillators almost exactly in tune to give it that sharp piercing beating that only the CS-80 can deliver with that biting metallic resonance. Of course only Vangelis w...

Re: What synth is used in the gold HQ scene in Blade Runner?

Indeed while Ballad (and "Flamants roses" on Opera Sauvage) use the setup indicated in that interesting article; the Bladerunner Blues sound is slightly different. If there is a 5th in there, it's only a small amount. In any case you can configure the CS40M in a similar way. Nevertheless, I think I'...

Re: What synth is used in the gold HQ scene in Blade Runner?

I read somewhere that he actually never used his CS40M, just occasionally, couple of times, for FXs and smth like that. OK - but it is seen in his setup for quite some time; and it's clearly used on See You Later (1980) and Private Collections (1983) - so I think it's clear it was used quite extens...

Re: What synth is used in the gold HQ scene in Blade Runner?

Has he ever talked about what he used in BRB? And how did this impression that it's the CS80 begin? Was there a good reason for it beginning, aside from just generally how the patch sounds? Good point! It's just quoted all over the place - but you're absolutely correct - it has never been specifica...

Re: What synth is used in the gold HQ scene in Blade Runner?

Vangelis never played static patches on his CS-80s, he used all expression features like volume pedal, filter cutoff pedal, full aftertouch, he really plays with his whole self not just the static patches. That's why it's so difficult to mimic his sounds on another keyboard. You have to PLAY like h...

Re: What synth is used in the gold HQ scene in Blade Runner?

Lovely playing. Indeed, while I suggested the CS40M because of the mono sustain nature of the solo line, of course the CS80 has that excellent Sustain II mode where only the last note carries the sustain, allowing for monophonic synth like solos to be played, as done so masterfully by Vangelis in Bl...

Uli Behringer's deeply concerning post

In this post (see URL below) on Gearslutz, Uli Behringer calls into question the costs associated with Moog production. Surely that constitutes an attack on Moog? Meanwhile, his company, in many instances, does no ‘blue-skies / exploratory’ R&D (is he even aware of the costs of true synthesiser R&D?...

Can't answer the survey - the first question excludes me - I'm both (and suspect most here are too).

Re: A few questions about the Jupiter 80

Hi - I have a JP80 a few years and haven't used it a lot. I must also come clean and say that I caused a bit of a ruckus over on the Rolandclan forum for flagging a fairly serious problem with the JP80 PWM wave - but I'll try to give you objective, speedy answers here. But it's only one view. Answer...

Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)

1) The synth that made you want to play music: OBXA and CS40M 2) Your first synth: CASIO CT1000P 3) The synth that has surprised you most: OASYS 4) The synth that has disappointed you most: Nord Lead 2 (because of it's awful program saving and selection process only - I still don't get it! (love the...

Re: Kronos 88 note keybed/touchscreen thoughts.

As an OASYS user I also find it strange these days how "primitive" the touch screen seems by comparison to an iPad. But when I bought it 10 years ago the touch screen was a revelation. How times change. But I have to say - it's still an excellent way to manage such a complex operating system. then, ...
