I think this is largely a myth. Before I got my MIDI interface, I chained at least 5 synths together with no problems, and I produce trance which is heavily timing dependant. The reasoning behind the myth, I suppose, is that the device has to "interpret" each MIDI thru, thus slowing it down. I have ...

$150 is a steal for an A-Station, in my opinion. [I picked up mine new from GC for $200 (including V-Station and Bass Station VSTs) last year, and I thought that that was a steal!] I use the Microkorg and/or MS2000BR and the A-Station together all of the time. Different sonic territory for each; ea...

When it comes to "real sounds", huge expensive sample libraries are the best quality, by far. East West, Symphonic Choirs, etc...They blow ROMplers out of the water in terms of realism. Its laughable that people are recommending M3, Emu, etc - he asked for realism folks. The is one area of productio...

Re: Access Virus Help

I'm looking to find out exactly how to save the sounds I create on my Virus without destroying the factory sounds. Is it possible to dump the sounds I edit into the computer and make my own patch with only sounds I've created? How would I go about doing this if so? I was looking in the manual, but ...

I'm not interested in getting any of the vintage analogs. I have a couple of the new school analogs, and have found that they perform comparably to the old ones, at least comparable enough to spare myself the trouble of not having MIDI, tuning probs, repair, and all the other stuff inherent with the...

Re: Roland D50 PCM waves &other ROM synths

Hiya all. I have a question for those who are clued up on the Roland D50 LA synth. I am just confused about something. The D50 has those one shot and attack transient PCM waves...I believe that the PCM wave is the very start of the sound such as the chiff of a flute and then the LA synth part susta...

I haven't begun the process of figuring out what to get yet, so far I just wrote down all the suggestions other people have gotten in other BoC gear threads. Then I was planning on researching those, to find out what makes them a good recommendation, then take those things that were recommended for...

My new JD-990 . I have to say; when it gets late, after a long night of producing, and I look at the JD-990's screen...I feel something. Its almost like its looking back at me. Its almost like there is a... connection . A special connection that only occurs between man and machine, musician and gear...

It sounds raw - the quality of the OSC really have presence - not weedy. It is quite thin sounding - but powerful-and big when in unison mode. Sounds like a contradiction! You kind of have to hear it. I think Clavia probably spent more time on the quality of the Modeling rather than building in FX ...

I recorded only one improvised sound demo in the early 00s when I still had mine: Nord Lead 2 strings/pads The vocal'ish pad sound at 2:00 is still pretty nice, I think. But yes, I recall it indeed was very good for organ, lead and ep sounds. Programming decent string pads was rather difficult (esp...

Re: Nord Lead 2

.....I noticed there hasnt been much chat on VSE about Nord Leads-compared with for example VAs of a similar generation like ANX1/JP8000/Virus So now that you bring that up, how does it sound compared to similar VA's? I have a bunch of VAs and wondering whether or not to get the Nord, whether it wi...
