personally, i feel the cs80 is highly overrated. how so? the only reason some people would say it's overrated is because of those trademark Vangelis sounds, however you can do the same sounds to a degree on the lesser CS synths like the 40m, 50 & 60. People imagine themselves doing those sounds on ...

Re: Get me outta soft synth h**l.

For the last 5-10 years I have been completely software. After some frustration with latency during some practice sessions, I want to get back to outboard gear. This is the only reason that you don't like software? This can be fixed easily. If you are otherwise satisfied then save a lot of money an...

Mostly sit, unless I'm really getting into it and then I go into Yanni at the Acropolis mode.

Re: Andromeda, Virus or Supernova?

I'm currently debating which of the following synths to buy: Alesis Andromeda (£925) Access Virus KC (£550) Novation Supernova II Keyboard (£575) I've been looking round and have found one of each of these for sale (used, obviously). The prices given above are what the sellers are asking for. I've ...

I know the 5080 has sampling and the 3080 doesn't, but are there any other real differences between the teo units? Neither of the units can sample, but the XV-5080 can function as a sample playback synth, and the 3080 can't. It can load Akai, Roland, wav, and AIFF samples through a SCSI port. Assum...

100$? Damn....takes me back to when I was 9 years old :) Ok, I would get a Boss SP-202, Tascam 4 track, and a Casio keyboard from Goodwill, all used of course. It does not get simpler than this, hardware wise. Sample all of your drums to the Boss, Casio for any melodic parts, bounce it to the Tascam...

You can't get a XV-5080 for 400 USD, sorry. A 3080 perhaps... I own the XV-5080 and love it. It is an awesome bread n butter "ROMpler" (it is actually a sample based synthesizer), as well as a great set of synth presets designed by Eric Persing and the Roland sound team. It really shines on the more...

I just got a Sony MDR-7506 pair and I'm loving them. The more experience I got, the more I have figured out that I need a lot of different mixing perspectives. Also, headphones really allow you to "zone" in on the music/sound, while monitors give you the big picture.

Re: Can a Novation Supernova sound like this?

I'm currently considering buying a Novation Supernova. However, I've stumbled across this "video" on Youtube, featuring the Access Virus KC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DrmdWEDfks I can't get over how beautiful it sounds. These are exactly the sorts of sounds I want to create. To me, it doesn't...

How can you sound like a mono synth?

what exactly are you all referring to when you say a synth sounds "plastic"? i can't even begin to guess what that means. the casing and keys of a lot of my synths are plastic, but that's about all i'm getting... "Plastic" is the opposite of organic sounding, and a subset of "digital sounding", but...

Re: For those who have MS2K + other VA

I've had MS2000 for 2 weeks now. I think it sounds like a rompler. It sounds most plastic compared to other VAs, and I have things like AN1x, OB-12, A-Station. And after those 2 weeks, I feel limited by its amount of functions. Does anyone agree/have the same feelings. Or am I doing something wrong...

This song was done almost entirely with a JP-8080 (everything except the vox sounds). This was back in the day when all I had was a JP-8080 and Absynth 3.

I don't know what else you are hearing man, especially above all of the rest of the music, you must have some incredibly descriminating ears. There is so many high freqs and the bass is relatively quiet, that it would be nearly impossible (psychoacaustically) to hear any higher freqs in the bass. I ...
