Given that most VAs can do way more than most real analogs, and that "virtual" implies not being able to do as much, then yes it doesn't make a lot of sense. However impications aside, looking at the definition; vir·tu·al (vûrch-l) ADJECTIVE Existing or resulting in essence or effect though not in a...

I have the XV-5080, and besides the lack of sampling and USB integration and other bells and whistles (which I don't need), I actually think that the XV is better than the Fantom XR. Well anyway, I haven't played the M3, but between the Fantom and the Motif, based on what you need I would go with th...

imo sounds are hard to program, not the synths. you don't need big knowledge to do some tweaks on dx or analogs, even from scratch. if you know sequence of modules and what they do it is very easy. Absolutely true. Any idiot can learn the basics of FM "oh 6 OPs, EGs, ratios...that's easy!". However...

The DX7 is a beautiful instrument, there's no hype about that. It's not at all that hard to program as people say (mostly those who didn't get to seriously program it). Getting unique sounds requires as much skill as getting them from a knobby analogue synth - no more. Are you seriously asserting t...

Roland's World Expansion (for the hardware route). Do you have a XV/JV series synth? If not I recommend the XV-5080 which takes both SRX and JV format expansion cards (unlike the Fantom which only takes SRX). It is also an incredible synth with great sounds and a great synth engine all around. The C...

A sample player - Triton or something
An analog - monophonic will do - Pro One or MS-20
Some digital synth - JD-800
Finally an answer that makes sense.

Re: More ambient style synth

Hey, I'm looking for a new synth to buy. I'm willing to spend around $500 for it. Currently I have a Korg Poly-800 and an old workstation, both which have mostly gritty sounds to them. I'm looking at getting something with a more cleaner and clearer (perhaps ambient) sound to them. I use a few effe...

I have the SE-1, which is analog, and better than the LP and the Minimoog in my opinion (ok maybe except for the ENVs...I need to get the SE-1x upgrade dammit).

Hehe oops. Well it is still a downgrade of the SuperNova regardless, except, as I said, if you need a audio interface. Hah. I don't think you know enough about it, sunshine. It is a downgrade in terms of the modulation possibilities of the SuperNova - it's just a straightforward VA synth - nonethel...

Virus kicks the c**p out of the Nord on every possible level except; -The Nord has a much brighter sound than the Virus, so I don't have to raise the trebel on it all the time like I do with the Virus. -The Nord's ring and FM algorithms have more bite to them for some reason...not sure what it is bu...

Yeah the Cs1x sucks. It is a good MIDI controller though, which is the only thing I use it for anymore. Just curious: How does it suck? The CS1x turns up 2nd hand for a mere $100-150 sometimes, so I've considered getting one. This is considerably less than, for instance the AN1X (usually $250) or a...

Wow. I just looked at all the gear you have already, and now I'm even more perplexed as to why you're even asking this question. You already know that ALL digital synths sound different. You already have a Virus, JP-8080, Supernova II (amazing synth) and the Nord. If you're looking to spice things ...
