Re: CS-50 60 owners

I nearly bought Loverboy's CS60 several years ago - or what I was told was Loverboy's CS60 - but somebody apparently stole it a couple of days before I was set to complete the transaction. I can only assume they stole it very slowly. I've had a CS50, and currently have a CS60 (for sale but buyer pen...

Re: Cheap As Chips

My best score is a free ARP Pro Soloist, which I (foolishly) sold.

(silikon: Let me know if you ever want to ditch the Synergy. I've got a mad jones for one.)

Re: Selling Yamaha Electone EX-1

Hard to say. At the end of the day, it's still an Electone, even if it is one of the neater ones. There's a lot of garbage and hooplah on the Internet from various people saying that the EX1/EX2/EX42/E70 have the same tone generation stuff as is present in a Yamaha GX1 and CS80, but this isn't true....

Re: Rhodes and Wurlitzer... Why so volatile?

Supply and demand for Wurlitzers and Rhodes pianos varies all over the country. Vancouver has always been Rhodes country, so Wurlitzers go for more and have done so ever since I can remember. Rhodes prices around here seem to be at about $1100, which seems a bit rich... I remember buying my first Rh...

For $150, it's a steal. But the place you should really be reading about such things is http://www.combo-organ.com

Re: Sell everything and grab a CS-80

A CS80 came up for sale here in Vancouver in February. It was expensive, and a nuisance to get home (which also involved nearly being arrested, and also nearly being rear-ended by a taxi), and I'm still paying it off. It was teched, and in good condition, with a good service record; it also plays wo...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

A random sampling of the worst keyboard and synthesizer instruments on Vancouver Craigslist this morning: - The Wurlitzer Funmaker Grandma Organ (and its ilk; various Lowreys, Allans, Baldwins, etc., none of which are actually cool) - "Casio SA65 Electronic Portable Piano Organ $40 Takes" - The Korg...

Re: ARP Solist (NOT Pro/DGX)

Most famously on Steely Dan's "Countdown to Ecstacy", where Donald Fagen got so pissed off with the unstable tuning on the machine that he dropped it down a flight of stairs (or, in some recollections, out a window) and set it on fire after dousing it with lighter fluid.

Re: Prophet 12 or Solaris?

I had both on pre-order, then when I decided to scale back on new acquisitions due to moving I cancelled the Prophet 12 and kept my Solaris on pre-order. Make of that data point what you will, but it's another data point nonetheless.

Re: Clavinet sound

The Clavinet and, I believe, the Pianet, were both the inventions of Ernst Zacharias, the mad inventor working for Hohner at the time. In addition to the Clavinet and the Pianet, he also invented the Cembalet (a precursor to both instruments), the Guitaret (a weird little box-thing full of other thi...

Re: Question about vintage synths

I know of a couple of projects that aim to do drop-in replacements for no longer manufactured ICs. Old Crow (Scott Rider) has patiently been recreating the CS80 M-Card (voice card) in surface mount for years now, and to the best of my knowledge has done the VCO, VCF, and VCA. I believe the missing b...
