Re: What synths suit my needs?
A quick note on Vangelis: if you haven't seen the Mik300z videos on Youtube, go check them out. He does *very* good recreations of, and works inspired by, Vangelis (and I think there's a pretty hefty dollop of other stuff there.) His equipment is about 50% new, off-the-shelf stuff (Juno G, Microkorg...

Re: Help identifying Yamaha organ/synth
Yep, that's the one. The main cool thing about it is that it uses the same filters as the Yamaha GX-1 (large, potted modules.) Cute little guy, but not quite as fun (for some reason) as the ARP Pro Soloist or the Roland SH-1000, its main competitors. Way better action than the SH-1000, though. I hav...

Re: Which Curtis poly to complement MKS-80?
I've sort of been staring at this thread and avoiding chiming in, but as somebody who's owned a MKS-80, a Matrix-6R and a Matrix-12, here's some thoughts: 1. I've never had a problem with the Matrix-12 envelope sluggishness. They are definitely digital envelopes, and aren't as fast as the envelopes ...

Re: 8+ Voice, Dual VCO/DCO, and Layering Capabilities
Rhodes Chroma. Each dual voice card has two VCOs, VCAs, and VCFs; they can then be layered in any one of sixteen (!) different routing combinations. You can even throw a ring modulator in there for Extra Happy Funtime.

Re: Can someone help me identify this Billy Preston sound?
Yeah, that's the Pro Soloist alright. It's very distinctive - damn, do I regret selling mine. Most of the joy comes from the touch sensor on that thing, which is incredibly expressive (when it works.) You can hear the same thing over a lot of Bernie Worrell's work for Parliament-Funkadelic. Once you...

Meanwhile, from Canada: Here is Anne Murray's Yamaha GS-1.
The matching eBay auction has had no bidders and is sitting at $750 right now. Not gonna lie, I'm kinda tempted...

Re: What was the cheapest Synth you ever bought?
CraigM: Damn, you got those?! Curse you - you must have beaten me by 5 minutes. :) That said, it sounds to me like something blew up after deciding that the strain of working was too much for it. :) PM me if you decide you don't want to take on a Rhodes Chroma overhaul project; I've been looking for...

Re: reflections on NOT having an Andromeda
Had an Andromeda. Sold it. Got a Minimoog D with the proceeds. Not looking back. The killers: 1. Blowing up on me at a gig for no good reason. Somehow it got stuck in some kind of hideous MIDI triggering mode. 2. Velocity sensitivity is too stepped for my taste. Frankly, I want a button that just tu...

Re: MELLOTRON IS BACK!
Yeah, Streetly has been making noises about Mellotrons with cycling for quite a while now. I know that they make new Trons in Calgary, Alberta which are the Mark VIs. Or at least they did, dunno if they went under or are just quietly tronning away...?

Re: Little Boots' Video - Remedy
It's worth noting that Page McConnell of Phish played an Andromeda live for ages - until the most recent tour, I believe, where he replaced it with a Little Phatty (And james Brown's Moog Liberation keytar which is reserved specifically for playing "Frankenstein" on...)

Re: Overdrive/Distortion pedal for Rhodes, Organs & Moogs' sound
For the Rhodes: get a TubeWorks Real Tube II rack mount. Nothing better for a Rhodes; use the clean channel for producing pure, sparkly bell-like tones (the Dyno-my-Piano sound, or more of an early 60's Bitches' Brew kind of a thing) and then fire the thing into double stack mode when you want dirty...

MPC2000 pot
Anybody with manuals, technical specs, etc. know what the values and specifications are for my MPC 2000's recording gain volume potentiometer? I know mpcstuff has one but 30 bucks for a part seems ridiculous if I can just order it from Mauser, and I've got a buyer for the silly thing if I can just c...
