Vince Clarke - 'The Cabin'

Has anyone had a look at this? It's short, but I just about wet myself. I knew that there was this mythical beast called the 'Cabin' that VInce Clarke had that housed his synthdom, but this slayed me... ARP's and obie's and roland's, oh my! http://www.vbs.tv/watch/motherboard/electric-independence-v...

Re: Fresh ideas on beginning a project...

This... Exactly what I was looking for. The key piece for me is 'control over everything'. I think as I compose, I tend to over analyze the individual parts and get caught up in tweaking. And I should have picked that up sooner - usually when you start putting the whole track together, I end up notc...

Fresh ideas on beginning a project...

Short story, really. I find myself pissed off and really getting no pleasure from my current 'way' of composing a song or group of songs. So I thought I'd post a quick question to see if anyone out there might be interested in firing off some of (not all of course) their songwriting methods... I'm l...

Re: Screw the iPad I want THIS!!!

I'm one of those people who have the screen protector on their phone/pod/pad WTF ever -- and always cleaning it. fingerprints make me INSANE. I will not use my phone if i've eaten or anything. Grody. Same for all my gear and computers, too. Man, I will not get within 100 yards of your setup if there...

Re: Power Consumption in your studio.

@astroidmist: (odd choice of handle for what I'm about to describe) :D moisture, heat and large vibrations are an enemy of everything. Ever went running in 100 degree humid weather? Man, fruit is not DESIGNED to wick the moisture off. And by fruit I mean kiwis and bananas. And by moisture I mean the...

Re: Power Consumption in your studio.

In my humble opinion, since you're asking... Power the s**t down. If you're worried about battery back up, time to get a battery and replace the old. For current draw, most libraries (and the electric company, certainly) will have these nifty little devices to measure operating current, as someone e...

Re: What was the most expensive Synth you ever bought?

i stopped counting how much i'd put into my eurorack modular system when i hit $5611.82. it's about doubled in size since. cumulous that's sick that the most you've spent on a piece of gear is $250 and it was for a f**k minimoog. mine cost me three grand. ....and you say that without adding pics fo...

Re: What was the Deepest Synth you ever bought?

Deepest Softsynth: A toss up between NI Reaktor and Absynth. Steep learning curve. Endless possibilities. A tweakfest. Deepest Hardware: Oberheim OB-Mx and Waldorf Microwave XTk. (excluding, obviously anything modular) I'm impressed by the level of depth and modulation possibilities on the OB-Mx... ...

Quasimidi raven or "how I almost fell out of my chair."

Someone care to explain this one? Would love to own one, but I'd rather chunk 2500 dollars into a new modular, or something. Last I checked these units weren't fetching those sorts of dollars. Anyone have experience with them they might care to share? 220694389401 ----------=====[ZS]=====----------

Re: quick-to-program drum machine or software

A couple thoughts, I actually use these two things for more 'rock' based drum lines as well as your standard 4-on-the-floor beats. I have a Jomox 999; it's quick to get a handle on how to program beats (unlike it's predecessor, the XBase09, IMHO), has synthesized drum sounds and sampled cymbal/other...

Re: What got you into synths?

It all began in the mid 70's when I was an impressionable little ankle-biter -- my mom had a couple copies of Walter Carlos' stuff; Listening to him go straight to town on classical pieces with a moog modular, I was instantly hooked. The h**l with my piano lessons. Heh. It later progressed, as I sta...

DJFetus A great lad...

To anyone who deals with DJFetus, Sold me a very posh Nord Lead 2, and it showed up quick.fast.and.in.a.hurry. You'd be good off trading with this fellow, as far as I'm concerned. Very VERY outstanding deal, definitely good communication, and the nord was exactly as he described it, pictures were sp...
