New Solvent Tracks w/historic CS5

Thought this was really cool. The "band" Solvent, one of my favorites, has released a new set of tracks made completely with a Yamaha CS5. This is no ordinary CS5 however, it was owned by Richard D James (Aphex Twin, AFX, etc) and has the actual liner notes for his landmark CD "Selected Ambient Work...

Re: Is It Just Me?

Once again I'm shocked by the threads lately. Really? Seriously? Your questioning the value/sound/adoration of vintage synths in a place called VINTAGE SYNTH EXPLORER! That's like driving up to a biker bar on a Vespa and then asking every dude why they don't appreciate the Vespa's superior gas milag...

Re: just me? or do youtube demos all suck

Wait, first we were ripping on people for having too many synths. Now we are actually ripping on people for the QUALITY of their YouTube synth videos? Really? Yes, there are some bad ones. Yes there are some great ones (RetroSound, Jexus and of course our own AG whose vids helped him get a gig at MO...

Anyone with more synths than me obviously has too many and can't possibly use them all or make good music.

Re: upgrading OB-Xa

Yes, sourcing the boards, tray, chips and having it all installed/calibrated by a tech would be cost prohibitive. On another note, I see you're in a RUSH cover band and assume you're striving for authenticity with the Taurus and possible OBXa? I strongly urge you to reconsider bringing an OBXa on th...

Re: upgrading OB-Xa

Unfortunately, it's not that easy or affordable. This pic is of my 8 voice. You can see the four voices right there, separated by those white things. Each voice is on one of those cards. Now look closer, you can see the second tray, with the other four voice cards underneath. I don't know if the fou...

Re: Now I can play my cz101 at night...

This is a giant pile of awesome. I love my little CZ but I feel like I don't use it enough cuz it's at an awkward angle and I can't see the screen. Please, any more info on the install would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Microwave XTK vs PEK

Guys, I AM DISAPPOINT! Of course a Blofeld module would be a rational, space and money saving option. But come on! I gotta go for the thing that I have no need for, no space for and no money for. :-) I only have one modern/non analog board-- a Micron and I hardly use it, that's why I was always lean...

Microwave XTK vs PEK

So, I'm lucky enough to have a very well-rounded set up, covering many different types of synthesis and sound options. Now I feel like I want something that does some weird/long/trippy sounds. I'd love to do more "soundscape" stuff. I've looked around and although the Wavestations, FIZMO, and some o...

Re: New guy here! A couple questions I have...

I own a Jup-6 and I would not recommend it for the kind of sounds you're looking to make. It is a fabulous synth but as other posters said, it falls into the "all arounder" category and can't really make the mind altering sounds you're after. Software aside (although I think something like Crystal o...

Re: Why analog?

I usually stay out of these threads as well. I consider myself lucky to have all kinds of sound creation options in my set-up-- digital, analog, software, 8-bit, divide-down, even toys! FOR ME it's about using the right tool for the job and sometimes, using the wrong tool for the job-- which can yie...

Re: Used synth stores in New York City?

Unfortunately, it's pretty slim pickings here in NYC, plus you pay NYC prices. Try ROGUE, EARS, THREE WAVE (in NJ but it's sweet) and DO NOT go to ARMENS whatever you do. Honestly tho, I've been synth hunting in NYC for like 12 years and have never actually bought anything in a store. It's always be...

Re: Prophet 5 vs Jupiter 6?

I agree with V301H. The Prophet falls into the "warmer" "rounder" sounding category along with the Oberheims. One could argue that the Juno might belong there as well and you already have two synths, although both Rolands, that compliment each other. Also, if you don't have Europa installed in your ...

Re: Why do people hate on the Poly61?

Ah, the Poly-61. This was the synth that really got me into synths. My older brother had one in the 80s and I used to mess with it whenever he left house. In fact, it's still in our parent's basement. I haven't included it in my studio rig because of the lack of midi and I think the JX-8P (for about...
