Re: The great JX8P giveaway! -thoughts on the synth-

Lucky you! I think the 8P is quite nice. I bought one for my girlfriend so she could play around with something on her own. Eventually, I couldn't resist and started messing with it. Of course, I then claimed it as mine and added it to my studio rig. Once I found a PG and C16 cart for a "good" price...

Re: Have a Jupiter 6. do I need a moog?

I'm lucky enough to own a JP6 and a Voyager and here is my take: If you are using the Jup successfully for pads and unison leads, then stick with it. I hope you have the Europa mod because it just makes the beast even more functional, stable and fun. What you're not using the Jup for is bass. An are...

Re: The Appearance of Synths

I think layout and looks are VERY different. Layout isn't subjective, it's either well laid out or not. Looks are very subjective. I think the 800DV is super ugly but I love that retro look. I also think the XTK is super ugly but I hate that "Extreme Synth" color and type font. Both synths however, ...

Re: Synths in the City

Rogue is OK sometimes but it's far from a synth shop. Armen's is a total joke. Anyone who'd let a Poly Moog rot in his window like that deserves all the criticism he gets. That "keyboard museum" seems cool but it's 90% combo organs and ultimately they're a business trying to rent them to you. 3 Wave...

Re: What got you into synths?

My older brother was in a band when he was in high school and they used to practice in our basement. His guitar player's Dad owned the local Mom and Pop music store. Since my bro played keys he "borrowed" a lot of different synths from the music store including a Moog Liberation and a Korg Trident. ...

Re: an alesis micron as midi keyboard for a desktop evolver

...well there you go. Thanks Stab I didn't know the Evolver had it's own sequencer as I've never owned one or even played with one. Regardless, I think that "send pattern" feature of the micron is pretty cool. Of course now I want an Evolver!

Re: an alesis micron as midi keyboard for a desktop evolver

Also very fun and useful: Go into the main settings menu and switch it to "send patterns only". Now you can send all the Micron patterns and sequences you make yourself to the Evolover. In other words, you're adding a sequencer to your Evolover. One of the main reasons I love the micron is this feat...

Re: I guess I’m just not a big fan of DCO’s

I guess I never reach for a certain synth based on it's technology in general. I just look for the right tool for the job. In fact, I know I have several different ways to produce the sound I need, so it's a matter of the song or project I'm doing. I find these creative choices to be the funnest par...

Re: Casio CZ-1-is it a good starter synth?

The Micron is basically the competitor to the Microkorg, so you'd be making a sideways move. However, being a Micron owner, I find it quite superior to the micro sound wise and in playability because of the full size keys. Yes editing is a pain--lots of menu diving but I see there is a software edit...

Re: buy an iffy arp 2600 for $1000?

Ah, that's what all that stuff was inside the lid! I asked him about it but he didn't respond. I guess he just thought it was part of the synth. Why didn't I offer more? Truthfully, I'm saving up for something else and like Code Green said, I was worried I'd be stuck with something that needed thous...

Re: buy an iffy arp 2600 for $1000?

Like I said, I responded to this ad but you guys are missing the point! This was originally listed on Craigslist for $100 bucks. Yes, $100 bucks. By the time he got back to me, he said it was up to $500 bucks and could I beat that. Anyhow, best of luck with the synth, code. Maybe I can hop on the L ...

Re: buy an iffy arp 2600 for $1000?

Ha, being a NYer I saw this too and instantly wrote the guy. He wrote back saying the response was insane... at least 30 people were interested and the highest bid was now $500. Hmm... at $100 you could still part it out, if it was dead and get your money back. At $500 it starts to get a little iffy...

Re: Dumbest thing you've ever heard someone say about synths

+1 on the whole "Why do you need so many different keyboards? Don't they all do the same thing?" comment.

After 3 years, my GF finally understands the difference between my synths, but almost EVERY stranger who walks into my studio says the same thing!
