Re: pure analogue studio, need advice

If you want that analog tape sound why not try to use a VCR? They are actully very cheap/low priced these days. Go for a HiFi with 6heads, they seems to be best. If you want to know something about VCR audio recording look at this site: http://homerecording.com/vhs.html Here's a link to someone usin...

Re: My D-50 is failing me!

You are absolutely right about that Madtheory, it's not a guarantee that changing caps would have solved the problem, but as you say one need to diagnose intelligently with help of a technical manual.

Re: My D-50 is failing me!

Yes, capacitors are easy to diagnose and fix. But if you haven't trouble shooted the circuit and ascertained exactly what damage is creating the symptoms you describe, it's likely that you'll have spent time and effort for nothing, leading to frustration. There is a distinct possibility that the pr...

Re: My D-50 is failing me!

While I'm ranting about capacitors... I see lot of posts here (on VSE) about broken PSUs, one problem can be related to capacitors inside the PSU unit. It's worth checking them out especially if the unit is old and obsolete, it's not always possible to find a decent replacement for it. A PSU unit ma...

Re: My D-50 is failing me!

That definitely sounds like a problem with capacitors. I have to leave my S-50 on for a while and after that it works ok. Mylar capacitors are build with chemical fluid substance and like batteries they stop to work after some time. Charge and discharge of the voltage in capacitors gives it a therma...

Re: My D-50 is failing me!

You say that your D50 freezes more often than before and that it always have done that since you got it. It might be problem with the mylar capasitors on the PCBs. They tend to wear off with age. It's like batteries they don't last forever, eventually they stop working and that's what it sounds like...

Re: A floppy to memory stick adaptor- it exists

The "Scythe Card Reader & Floppy Drive" probably won't work on a sampler since it requier USB 2.0 interface.

As far as mp3 goes, it's perfect for music in 'consume-and-throw-away-age', goes well in the mobilphone or handheld devices. People tend to 'listen' to music and do something totally different at the same time. So it doesn't matter I guess. Like Madtheory said, using mp3 for promotion is ok, not for...

I own two Prophet 2002, and one Prophet 2000.
It take some time to get into it due to the interface. It has good and clean filters so I treat them more like a synth (analog one!) than sampler. I don't want to part from my instruments, I like them too much.

Thanks for your comments Madtheory. First I want to correct that I'm talking about the Emulator II, and not the Emax. With Emax you can sample at 42khz, with Emulator II you are bound to a samplerate at 27.777khz. To overcome that 'limitation' you can do some 'tricks', and one is to save a sound on ...

Thanks for your answer Tallowwaters. The reason I want the different playback/record speed is that it makes it possible to sample frequencies above EII's frequency limit at 13khz, so I can sample cymbals, bells, and so forth with 'clear' result. I know I can save it to a computer and use dedicated s...

Portable digital recorder with different record speeds?

Does anyone know about a digital recorder that is capable of variable record speed, like analog tape recorders? It should also be able to replay the recorded sound with different speed. Sorry for posting this in here but it sort of has to do with sampling because I want to use it with old samplers w...

A coupld s-series questions: 1) can ONLY the mu-1 mouse be used with these, or can other (cheaper) models? (the shape looks like a normal old style mouse) 2) Do they all have the video out, or do you need a special expansion card? 3) With mouse + monitor, is work flow fairly fast? Or is it just lik...
