Re: Why can't anyone release a small VA with analog filters ?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe someone has released a small VA with analog filters. In fact, Radikal Technologies is managing to keep producing the Spectralis, now in second generation form. I'm pretty sure the Spectralis has only the single pair of analogue filters in a single dedi...

Orbital http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/4003/orbital.jpg This is actually their current live rig (as used at The Big Chill last weekend :) ). I saw some tweaking on the Macbeth (at the back), and actually h...

The Juno 106 has an all in one VCF- VCA package. It's the same VCF + VCA combo used in the Juno 60, but packaged all in one - that being much of the reason for the failure of the chip.

Re: NEW DSI Tetr4 -4 voices of Mopho In a Box!

So should we all just run around saying Dave is the greatest instead? And arrange a time to all go together and fellate him? You can if you want to... ;) Didn't say anything of the sort. It just seems everyone on the internet knows better than the manufacturer, w/o really knowing anything about wha...

Re: Why can't anyone release a small VA with analog filters ?

I wasn't implying that all of the DSPs would be replaced with analog - only those that were handling the filtering. I still think with some creative signal routing in DSP code and a bank of discrete analog filter stages bolted to the DSPs you'd get your result. Thing is AFAIK there aren't dedicated...

Re: NEW DSI Tetr4 -4 voices of Mopho In a Box!

I really give up with you lot. Every time a new synth comes out we get the chorus of "It'd be much better if it was $200-$300 cheaper, I'm sure they could do that - they'd sell loads more. It can't cost much to add x number of extra voices, a few more outputs etc etc". I'm sure you (and I) know far ...

Re: Why can't anyone release a small VA with analog filters ?

a small, simple little keyboard from some enterprising young outfit ? Or even just a hybrid little rompler. Simple, money. Look at the cost of modular filters, even the simplest ones are $100 each. the typical VA has at least 16 voices, and has at most 6 outputs. All the voice assignment is dynamic...

Re: NEW DSI Tetr4 -4 voices of Mopho In a Box!

Nice little box by the looks of it, well thought out how it integrates with other DSI stuff too. Good that you can access most parameters directly if you've a Prophet. At that price I expect it'll do well (4 Mopho's for $800? :) ).
I may look into one myself as the Prophet is too rich for me.

Re: What is Your Favourite Analog OSC Waveform and Why?

The Moog Voyager has this same variable waveshape. Tri-Saw is at 1.5 on the knob marking. The Multimoog has it also. Only other VCO based synth I know that does Saw wave Width Modulation is the Akai AX-60. Oberheim OB-1 does. And it seems not all waveforms are generated equal. In my Rogue I think t...

... or maybe a Roland JX8P with an Oberheim Matrix 1000 because as you said, its cheap and looks rather easy to use. Plus, the Oberheim is said to be great for ambient stuff.... Err... the Matrix 1000 is cheap, but it's not easy to use. 1U rack, no knobs, only way to program your own sounds is with...

Re: Analog delay?

As for the time alignment, the sub sounds way better when played 2.6 ms before the speakers. More tight and solid, less muddy. That should be because the sub is placed about a meter behind the speakers, right? I doubt that very much. The sub should be producing anything at frequncies related to the...

Re: Analog delay?

Seeing as this is your monitoring chain, the last thing you need in there is an analogue delay. TBH you really shouldn't have any extraneous processing in there. Really don't understand what you're trying to do, why exactly do you need to time align the sub? Moving your head around is likely to have...

Re: Synth Workshop - New TV Series

1: when shooting video, shoot a green screen not blue. There's a long detailed explanation, but let's just say there's more color data in green than blue on video. There's no more colour information in a green screen than a blue screen. Digital video works in YUV colour space, blue - yellow being t...

Re: Alesis USB-MIDI Cable Connects MIDI To Computers

The Alesis model requires no drivers. The chip in the cable does the work of translating the MIDI signal to USB as opposed to what the other manufacturers do (rely on software on your computer to make the translation). that's why it's so special, right? Nope. None of the other cables rely on softwa...

Re: Trigger Pro One Sequencer from Midi

Why not just connect the the Kenton's gate out to the Pro One's gate/clock in & not bother with the CV from the Kenton?
Alternatively for even more fun send the Kentons' CV out to the Pro One's filter CV in, you could then have a different filter setting for each of your sequence's notes...
