Re: Do you aknowledge the importance of dance music

Modern dance music is soul-less, essentially talentless as its all done by combining samples and pre-bought dum patterns on a PC in about 10 minutes (I know a guy who creates sample CDs and club music for a living he showed me how easy it is), so no that rubbish does not keep this site alive its ki...

Re: DI or preamp to record analog synths???

You shouldn't need a DI to record synths as most are line level. You only need a DI if you plan on going into a preamp to give it some character. Output of a DI intended for the Mic input of your Pre. You don't need a DI to go straight into your soundcard. There's a lot of myths floating around DIs ...

'Not a whole lot more' ? Nearly double at $2000 more (current price on the Solaris is $4500). Not saying won't be worth it though...

Re: Midi-cv Converter?

Not as sophisticated as the Kenton but the BassStation Rack has MIDI > CV built in (also CV > MIDI!). Got mine for £100, and you get a free Synth :)

Re: Midi-cv Converter?

Oh I think I've got it. So it enables an analogue synth (without MIDI i/o) to be controlled by an external master MIDI controller? But, doesn't every manufacturer have different configurations when it comes to this CV business? ... .... Sorry for all the questions but does CV stand for constant vel...

Re: is 'new analog' better or worse 'old analog'?

Do you mean the new Prophet? Don't get me wrong it's sounds very nice, though I felt it was a little flimsy in build for the money. Best of luck with it Yes, the new one. Always wanted th Prophet 5, but no way can justify the cost & potential maintainance. This is just a hobby for me, so it won't b...

Re: Do you aknowledge the importance of dance music

Kraftwerk didn't invent electro (they did experimental synth pop) it was Afrike Baambaata who nicked the beat from Computer World with the melody of Trance Europe Express and put it in the context of the underground club music of Detroit which went down a storm. Kraftwerk didn't mind this too much ...

Re: is 'new analog' better or worse 'old analog'?

Not better, not worse, just different. It seems the things people like about old analogue (tuning instabilty etc) are those the engineers / designers were trying to get rid of, hence the so called 'cleanness' of the newer stuff. Other thing is you're comparing instruments with 20 year old components...

Re: Such a Shame theWavestation Didn't Have Resonant LP Filters!

The SY77 came out 3 years after the D50, with the exponential increase in DSP power available it no doubt became easier to do. Of course at the same time Korg didn't seem to think resonant filters were a big deal... Bear in mind as well Yamaha were custom designing their own LSI chips for DSP while ...

Not if you're not using it. As nas been said the ESQ-1 & SQ-80 have a great UI so you could well find yourself using them more.

Re: Now that's what i call a synthesizer

The GRP Synthesizers are very Korg PS-3xxx in design. The A8 also looks like it has something similar to the Roland System-100M-182 sequencer module, but has far more scope and possibilities and there is a small patch bay to the bottom i see also. 6-OSC synth, very powerful indeed. The GRP has 6 VC...

Re: What 80s songs can the EII's Marcato Strings be heard on?

I see you have a DX7S. Do you think it's capable of a big bowed string sound like that? If it is, I'l eat my hat. I'm familiar with the type of bowed strings the DX7 can do, they're nice, but they're not the big ensemble like this sound. I've a string patch on my DX& (mk 1) that sounds almost exact...
