The Split 8 is related to the SixTrack, MultiTrack, and Max. They all use the same single oscillator CEM 3394 chips, only the Split 8 has 8 instead of 6. The Split 8 can be split with upper and lower having different voices, or layered with two separate voices per key. Akai's AX60 and AX73 use the s...

I think the SY77 would be an excellent choice. Also for pads, lots of Korgs with the wave movement work great - TR Rack (an older synth related to the Trinity, not the current TR,) and the Korg MS-2000 with it's multiple LFOs. The Roland MKS-70 is a real analog string monster, and Roland's D-50 / D-...

Someone found the Electone circuits were derived from the GX-1 just like the subsequent FM synths and organs were from the DX7. And it seems that some of the higher end Electones have an actual CS80 engine inside. http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-24599-0.html&postdays=0&postorder=asc&hig...

I like the MT-32. I paid $20 for mine. It's a fun synth with some good sounds.

The only Roland synth I didn't like was the D-110. It just took too long to program all those partials.

Yamaha CS-10 "We thank you very much for your purchase of our YAMAHA CS-10. CS-10 is a synthesizer developed based in YAMAHA's superior technology and rich experience cultivated over the years with YAMAHA Electone Organs and by giving full play to latest IC technology." No too bad, but citing 70s tr...

Roland MKS-30, MKS-70, R-8M w/Ethnic Card, & Akai AX73. If it's big and buzzy, it's the MKS-30.

I'll likely re-edit and re-EQ it on Sunday, plus add an MP3.

The obvious winner so far is the MicroKorg, and I'll go with it too. Also, I second the SuperNova II. I'd love to get one. And indeed the Evolvers and P08. Just too cool. Any future classic current production synths not mentioned yet? Maybe the Korg/Nintendo DS-10 - if it ever gets into production. ...

I have an Akai AX73 which uses 6 CEM 3394 VCO/VCF/VCA chips like the MultiTrack (as does the Akai AX60 and Sequential SixTrack.) Sequential made the MultiTrack using feedback from SixTrack users, so the user interface is better. A friend of mine has a SixTrack, and it and my AX73 sound about the sam...

Control Voltage = Synthesizer?

An application of CV was developed by Moog to define a distinct pitch for each voltage value. However, control voltage has been used in electrical circuits since the 30s. It's used in relay and switching networks, solenoids, voltage regulators, etc.

On a related topic, I was wondering what synth New Order used on the studio recording of Age of Consent. I think it's either a Voyetra 8 or a Prophet 5. The BBC video shows a Voyetra, and another vid shows them using a Prophet. I know vids in the 80s often used whatever gear looked cool, but not nec...
