Re: Side by side comparison of Roland TB-303 and Adafruit x0
i dunno if it is a cutoff point or something like that. if you look on the adafruit boards, this stuff has been broken down to a science. i just think they are different. my guess that it has more to do with the fact that the 303 has much smaller boards that are crammed together. they are built like...

Z wrote: Electrongate.com has LinnDrum and Oberheim DMX sounds directly from the EPROMS (before they go through filters & amps). Re: Advice on 80s drumsynth
i would grab a simmons sds5. it is a rackmount modular drum synth that has drums that could do all the 909/808 type stuff from a massive punchy perspective, but goes WAY beyond that. it would not be recognizable like those machines, and is likely in some of the tracks you mentioned... one thing to n...

Re: Suggestions for nearfield monitors
get the m-audio dsm-1's. they tested better than everything in the range including the adam's. don't let the brand fool you, they were designed by digidesign. you can not find a better nearfield for the price. period. Double side note - Most (if not all) of the digidesign hardware below HD prices i...

Re: Suggestions for nearfield monitors
Just as a note, most current m-audio products are designed by digidesign. when Avid bought m-audio they moved most of the engineers in with the digidesign crew and let quite a few go. actually, this isn't exactly true. m-audio developers didn't go to digidesign, though more collaboration happened w...

Re: Analog Bass Synth - which one?
this is a really easy one. buy the original SEM. if you can't, buy a new SEM. i have arp2600's, minimoogs, all sorts of modulars...etc. if you want basslines, buy the SEM. i personally have an oberheim tvs... and i have barely turned on the minimoog since i got it years ago. it is the best machine f...

Re: Dave Smith Poly Evolver
i have both the andromeda and the poly evolver keyboard... and love both. as has been stated, the digital and weirder options on the PEK give it that spice that really makes it a wild synth. on top of that, and to me personally, the sequencer is what really brings this synth into a league of its own...

oh that's fair... bring up a band that has access to every godlike thing on earth.... WITH the producers to make them sound as top notch as they possibly can

Re: Side by side comparison of Roland TB-303 and Adafruit x0
hmmm, this one is tough. i agree that they are very close. i have owned a 303, and have built a x0x (with the right transistors). i am very happy with my x0x actually... but when i hear that they are so close that they are within the variances of the 303's... i dunno, i am not totally sold. i wish i...

Re: DSI Poly Evolver OR DSI Combo of MEK & Prophet '08
the microwave xt is pretty beautiful, and the synthesis options are superb. that said it can sound very brash/harsh. it was with a lot of sadness that i sold my black face version a number of years ago, cause it was hard for me to get it to lose that edge when i didn't want it. not to downplay the s...

Re: Will Roland remake any TR series pieces?
roland will never do it, and if they thought they were, they would screw it up so bad that we would end up with another pile of c**p like every single thing they have made since the mid 80's barring one.

Re: DSI Poly Evolver OR DSI Combo of MEK & Prophet '08
while i have always loved my original polyevolver, one thing that kind of made it less inspirational to program is the encoders. they don't feel natural. parameters seem to move to fast or too slow most of the time. it is impossible to perform on cause it takes too many turns to sweep the filter rig...
