In the end I decided not to...

It was a gamble (admittedly not much of one) on an instrument I'd need shipped from another country.

So I just bought a cheap Ensoniq ESQ-1 instead - to deflate my GAS a little. That should do pretty much the same job, without me having to fix it first..!

Fortunately, on closer inspection of the service manual, that looks to be a 2SB744, which Nikko sell for 47p. Kinda handy... :)

Unfortunately I have no way of testing the unit before I pay for it... So I may just have to take the risk...

Yup... Pretty sure you're right about those. The 7905 is obsolete, but I think I've found a substitute part. The 7805 is easy to get.

The question now is whether or not I gamble £30 on getting the synth with no guarantee that that's the only fault... Hmmm. Sadly no other way to check!

I haven't yet - I'm just deciding whether it's worth my while taking the project on before I buy it. There's no actual guarantee that the stabilizer (which I believe is SIMILAR to a regulator, but not quite the same thing). Apparently the stabilizer circuit is based around a zener or avalanche diode...

EX-8000 Stabilizer Module Fault.

I'm looking at picking up a faulty Korg EX-8000. Apparently the fault is with the stabilizer module of the power supply. I've obtained a DW-8000 service manual, which apparently applies in this case, but there's no direct reference to the stabilizer module. Is anyone able to tell me what I should be...

MMT-8 ROM Source?

Hi - this is kinda related to a Wanted post I just put up, but does anyone know where I can obtain a new ROM chip for an Alesis MMT-8? I'm specifically after V1.11, but I'd settle for anything better than V1.08! Apologies to the mods if they're unhappy with the quasi-replication of this post..!

Well... If you have any interest in next-gen trackers, the obvious package to try is Buzz... It's what I used to use when I wrote tracks with software. Despite generally only using hardware now, I still keep Buzz installed for a few tricks... It's pretty nifty - a tracker with VST (and other virtual...

Equivalent of LatelyBass / Solidbass for DX7/TX7?

Like the subject says... Does anyone know of/have a patch for the Yamaha DX7 / TX7 that equates (as accurately as possible) to the "LatelyBass" patch on the TX81z or "SolidBass" on the DX100? If someone does, would they be willing to let me have it (as a DX7/TX7 sysex file, obviously) or point me in...

The funny thing is that I actually own a PC & interface setup that definitely works ok. The less funny thing is that it's on the other side of the Atlantic - I left a Midisport Uno behind when I moved back from the US to the UK. I guess I MAY be able to persuade my ex to mail it to me... I did want ...

Tried that - I hooked up the out to the in 2 different ways - once through a MIDI thru box (which is definitely working) and also through a MIDI merge box (which, again, is definitely working). However, I definitely can't get ALL the sysex data I send to arrive at it's destination program. Some of i...

Ok... Just tried sending some sysex to the TX81z and not a whole lot happened. The transmit LEDs flashed maniacally but nothing changed.

Obviously this suggests that the fault is not with either sound module, but is it more likely to be interface, software or O/S?

Ok... I'll have a go at hooking it up to the TX81z tonight, when I finish work. Meanwhile - the interface came without drivers - and installed itself using a generic windows driver. It's identical to one found here: eBay auction for another USB-MIDI interface (yes - I know it's cheap & nasty, but I ...

I already did all that - it sends note on/off data just fine. It's just that the sysex is not getting through. I have no idea what brand the interface is - it doesn't have a brand name on it anywhere at all. It's listed in both Device Manager and MIDI-Ox as "USB Audio Device". In MIDI-Ox, I've defin...

I never really had a huge problem with it in the past - it's basic but always did the job for me... I don't really use computers for anything other than downloading patches and sending those and/or samples to hardware instrruments, so I don't need anything clever! That said, I've just tried JSynthLi...
