Re: Hardware Sampler Question (Mostly just "why")

The EPS can get a very distinctive sound - also It was used by Autechre because of a beautiful glitch it had (I'v forgotten the exact details). And the world's your sound generator - I once used sampled printing machines into the EPS and got some really musical mechanical rhythmic sounds. If you sta...

Re: Creative strategies in electronic music

I don't use acomputer and have only just started sequencing with a drum machine - last night because the toms were tuned i found it difficult to add a bassline as per norm - it sounded out of tune with the toms - I ended up with a brass patch on a low octave and lots of pitch wheel use - this is wha...

Primitivism - ideas?

I have been developing a live set the last few months using toy keyboards (casio SA 35, Rapman etc), simple drone synths made by Micchael Rucci, an old Zoom st224 sampler, some lunchbeats and other simple electronic instruments. I'm really enjoying getting as far away from high speced synths as poss...

Re: E-MU COMMAND STATION HELP

Have you got the manual? You can alter the sensitivity of the pads with the main menu. this is useful. The MP7 has alot of programmed sounds etc and I'v never found it easy to manipulate - the drum sounds can be extraordianary and are very good quality - the manual should help you programme - good l...

MKS70 split patch problems

I'v got a MKS70 where the patches with keyboard splits will only play one of the patches. Does this mean one of the two JX8P synth engines is not working? Or does the MKS make its keyboard split another way? Has anyone any experience with this or getting a repair job for this? Would it be a major re...

Re: Ensoniq fizmo- sounds

Yes - there's some good electric piano and organ sounds. Probably would do bass ok too. It also has a good drum set. But the magic of fizmo is to explore it's ability to go to some strange (and wonderful places). The best thing is that it mostly stays quite musical as you dive arround inside it's so...

Re: Bought an Ensoniq Fizmo - tips tricks?

I would consider the fizmo a self contained sounscape world - just play and explore - so much can change. Its not really particularly good at anything special (though the appegiator is fabulous as already said). Just enjoy to lose yourself in its unique world of sound.

Re: Korg Monotribe ?

Since there seems a lot of users eagerly waiting to make monotribe based tracks... would it be a good idea to make a seperate post of what people start to do with this/ With soundcloud links. Describe how you used it and any flash points etc...and then a link to a soundcloud file ??? I'd be keen to ...

Re: Will FM ever be sought after ???

I'v got a DX200 - its amazing - lots of hands on control - I think the cheap the cheap idiot friendly groovebox package does it deservice and here we go - fs1r - probably the greatest sounding synth ever made! - again totally underpresented. So yeah fm has the diservice of Yamaha only half trying to...

Re: So I bought my first synth, now what?

The circuit bent SK1 is a great idea. My 7 yr old daughter has the use of my V synth - mostly just for the great piano patch and key action. I tell her "this is the synth Madonna uses" and hope she'll be inspired to play around with all the cool dbeams and stuff. So yeah V synths are great for kids....

Re: So I tried a Virus. Finally.

I had the same experience in a store in Oxford St, London. Felt really lucky to play one and it sounded amazing. This was years ago, but I'v not bought one - due to the prices they go for and just have enough synth in that area. (I really like my battered old JP8000). Wish there were more stores aro...

Re: Need to be brought up to speed on bassline synthesizers.

The mopho keyboard is great - has sub oscs and sounds really aggressive, + lots of room for interesting modulations using the mod wheels and aftertouch. Good value for money too.

Re: New DSI instrument!

I know what you mean about the bonding and 'love at first sight'' thing. I bought a mopho keyboard when it first came out and it just gets better. But I have been using it a good deal. Whereas I never really felt to get an 08. I'm lucky coz there's a local dealer to try stuff out. Though the Tempest...
