Re: boards of canada

I really dig the Boards of Canada, particularly 'Music has a Right to Children.' Any idea what types of synths they use? I heard from a friend who is a huge fan that they are strict users of analog gear, yet Richard Barbieri in a recent Keyboard Magazine interview credits them with inventive use of ...

Re: the evolver's digital side

As a musician with a pretty decent collection of synths, I can say that the analogue - digital combination presented in the Evolver makes it, by far, the most versatile and best sounding synth I own. I absolutely adore its multiple delay effects which can be combined to create some amazing psychedel...

Oberheim Rack<?>: Marion MSR-2

Wanted to revisit this thread and see if anyone has a manual for the MSR-2 available? I just picked one up off of eBay yesterday, and would really appreciate a CC map. I did follow up on the link posted below. The proprietor of the site will furnish a PDF for $15(!). Anyone willing to part with a di...

I recently picked up the entire collection on special. I think Arturia did an amazing job with this collection. My favorite of the five synths is the Prophet emulation. I really like the Prophet VS which improves upon the layout of the original synth. It also offers a hybrid mode where you can progr...

P.S. Id still be interested in that card if you dont want it ;), just for the novelty factor
It is, sadly, hardwired to the XP-30 forever wasting an expansion port.

If only I could rip it out of the XP-30... The keyboardist in my band plays patches from it when he wants to annoy the h**l out of the other band members. It always works... I really like the vintage synth, 60's and 70's (great Rhodes, Hammond, Clav, Mellotron) and the World cards (very cool sounds ...

Thanks for posting. This item is exceptional. Note that it is being sold by Pete Miller, perhaps the best known and respected analogue synth techs in all of the Bay Area, if not the U.S. Pete restored my Rhodes Chroma to beautiful condition. He takes no short cuts in his work. If I was in the market...

I have both the JD-990 and the XP30 and use both extensively with expansion cards (vintage synth, 60's keys, world). I use the XP30 primarily for gigging with my band as it is versatile and can cover a broad array of sounds. However, there is little comparison between the sounds of the two synths: t...

Aur-y-El

Woke up Saturday morning with my DSI MEK recently reclaimed from my band's keyboard player and a recently acquired (but previously unused) Jomox XBase. I've been listening to Boards of Canada's brilliant "Music has the Right to Children" and sought to learn the riff to "Rogybiv." That set me on a pa...

:) I've been seriously eyeing a number of modulars, including the MacBeth M5N (semi modular), the Synth.com systems, and the very cool looking Analogue Systems Sorcerer (anyone have experience with these as offered by Big City Music??). Last weekend, I took a very experienced pro keyboardist to dinn...

Yes, but how does it sound?

Nice that it is built like a tank, but, how does it sound?

Is it musically useful?

Synthesizers.com Modular System

Hi,

I'm thinking of picking up a modular system from Synthesizers.com. Can any other users share their experience. Are these systems worth the expense? Would I be better off buying a vintage modular?

Thank you in advance,

MW

Choice of Effects Processor

Looking for some advice from others. I have the option to acquire one of the following effects processor: EVENTIDE H3000 D/SX ULTRA HARMONIZER or TC ELECTRONICS FIREWORX I'm looking for great reverb and other effects that I can use in both studio and a live setting. I would use it on synths, guitars...

Must second the notion: I'd go for the P08 in a heartbeat. I spoke recently to the owner of Novamusik. He stated that he was no longer stocking the Alesis Andromeda due to losing money on the many returned instruments due to several bad batches that had extreme oscillator tuning instability. On the ...
