I personally think the biggest design flaw was the 4 voices (whether PER or PEK).... I know they eventually rectified that (slightly) with the P08, but I think some of the thunder was gone by that point. If they had released the P08 first, and then the PEK/PER, there would be a more obvious distinc...

All I know is that I don't own a MicroKorg now, and I can't see wanting something 20 years from now that I can only get via the MicroKorg.

Who's the target market in 20 years for used beat up MicroKorgs at a higher-than-new price?

I also love my JV1080 (well, both of them; anyone need one?). I've got World, Bass & Drum, Vintage Synth, and Piano expansions for it (with an 'Orchestral' card on its way on Ebay as of an hour ago). It's totally solid. The one place I'm not happy with it is for its piano (like my Alesis QS piano be...

I think it looks good, but until I expand my expendable income a great deal, I will never pay a cent more for the exact same machine with a different paint job (this, the P 08 signature, etc etc). Not saying I think they're bad products, just that they are clearly made for someone other than me.

JV 1080 Question: What goes in the PCM/Data slots?

Well, the title says it all. I've got a JV1080 that I use a fair amount and want to maximize its sonic posibilities. I've never used the PCM card slot or the Data card slot; are there particular model number cards that are compatible? I often see things on e-bay like this , is that something usable ...

Books are a good start. This one really worked for me (the author makes it very easy to understand IMO) and it costs next to nothing . Ditto on that. It's a great intro that, while it might not give you tons of hot tips on how to make that particular sound you want, it does explain very clearly the...

How do you route your midi?

Just a poll here, as I'm trying to get my studio (aka bedroom) set up in the most efficient way possible. I've got two different boards I use regularly as controllers, and a bunch of rack synths (um four at the moment), plus midi in and out of my computer. What equipment/methods do you use for your ...

Well, I vaguely remember reading here or elsewhere about the lifespan of electronics. Is there a point in the not too distant future when analog synths that are already 30 years old are just going to cease to function? Are enough of them made with proprietary components that we'll become unable to r...

, the Rhodes carries an amunt of physical maintanence, but so does an acoustic piano. Go for it. Since there's still such hot demand for acoustic pianos, even in this day and age, I should hope that the projected New Rhodes will prove to be as big a smash as the old run was in the 70's. I hope so. ...

It seems like Alesis is falling out of the keyboard game. Which is too bad; I've always been a fan of their product line (owner of a QS7.1). A buddy of mine bought the Ion this past fall and I think it's a great synth. I wonder if it's problem might have been that for a few hundred more a person cou...

Well, playing on this a little more, the problem is as follows: Playing the same note over and over, there is a distinct tonal difference every four voices. Four will have 'bite' to them, and then the next four sound like I have cotton in my ears (playing two notes at once, this happens every two ch...

I need a keyboard tech . . . OB-8

Well, I just got an OB-8, and it looks beautiful and . . . . . . . . . and it looks beautiful. It works basically, but there seem to be some issues. Three of the keys trigger the note again as I hold them down. The voices seem to fade in and out intensity-wise (particularly as I add additional voice...

You know, as much as it might be "sacrilege" to have goofed on refinishing a "vintage" piece of kit, there are some things to keep in mind: It's still a fully functional instrument Z is doing something constructive, and learning along the way Z will have the gratification of having completed a proje...

I love many of the presets from my Alesis QS7.1

Quadratix, number 90 bank A (or is it number 80?), is the best out-of-the-box "Jump" patch I've ever used.

I really like a lot of the electric and FM piano sounds.

The "flugel solo" is an awesome trumpet patch.

I have to say that I'd much rather get a deal on a Jupiter-6 without midi than pay the "full price" with it. The whole reason I'd get a Jupiter is for the circuitry, not for power as a midi controller; I can buy one of those to suit my needs for $200 or less. I've got an OB-8 on its way here without...
