Re: Sniffing on a Roland S550. Experiences?

I got the unit yesterday, but I haven't installed it yet... I tried it at the seller's place and it sounded deceivingly good... I mean it sounded much better than I thought and I bought it before I wanted something that sounded lots less nice than my E-Synth. Anyways, I will make sure to experiment ...

That's been a real PITA, but they finally fixed that in Cubase 4. And they added side-chaining as well, just so you know.

Re: WinXP PC Users: What audio software are you using?

I use Cubase 4, upgraded from Sx 3. Been using Cubase since Atari days. I tried others, but I always come back. I tried ProTools lately, but I find it great for recording audi and sucks at MIDI. The new feature I find great in Cubase 4 is the arrangement track. It enables you to set sections of the ...

Re: Sniffing on a Roland S550. Experiences?

Nice. I'll try to remember that!
It reminds me that the first thing I have ever sampled, and it was on a rented S-10 when they where selling new (yeah, I'm getting old), was a the flush of a toilet. When playing a key 2 octaves lower than the root key, it sounded like thunder!

Re: 80s synth module!!

I had to convert to canadian dollars to have a better understanding... There is no 80's module that does it all. You could get a few modules instead. You have enough to get an ESQm, a TX802 (FM), D-550 and possibly another one. I guess you want multi timbral because you want to carry only one module...

Re: Sniffing on a Roland S550. Experiences?

Must sound great on a nice low fi sampler. I will be getting it tomorrow night instead.
I never used my E-Synth for fart music, but I'll make sure to try that on the S-550...

Re: 80s synth module!!

You could get the ProteusVX from Emu. You can download it for free and it comes with pretty much the same as the hardware version. IMHO, I think it doesn't sound as good as the hardware unit. I tried it. But it's free and it gives you the opportunity to try the unit for free. The proteus 2000 and ov...

Re: 80s synth module!!

Does it have to be from the 80's ? Cause you could check the E-mu Proteus 2000. They are not expensive (used of course). They are very compact with a great arpeggiator. I have an Audity 2000, which is pretty much the same thing but with more techno/electro sounds, and it sound pretty nasty. If you a...

Re: Which synth workstation?

And don't listen to others that obviously have something against some products! Go with your guts when you play them. It's like a Mac and PC war. Some obviously don't like the Korg's sound, some don't like the Yamahas... I've had a Motif for 3 years, now I have a Karma which had the Triton engine. I...

Re: Sniffing on a Roland S550. Experiences?

Hey Bitexion, I was wondering if you got the S-550? And if you liked it. I'm getting one tomorrow night with monitor, mouse, HD, 500 floppies, for 250$ Canadian. It felt like a good price. Anyone thinks I'm getting screwed? I intend to use it mainly for creating eletro drum sounds, since I guess it ...

Re: creating sounds

I have a Karma with the MOSS card, and that card does pretty much that. It is a card version of the Korg Z1. Includes physical modeling, VA, a bunch of other stuff. Dowload the manual at Korg.com, it's worth it. The synth part is what I use on it, I'm not much interested in accoustic instrument repr...

Re: Silver DX7?

OK, ok. I admit. It gives it a particular look. I'll say, just for respect towards a classic synth, that it's a nice sh :? :? brown. ON THE DX7 ONLY. Of course.

Does that make you happy? hehe

I liked the green buttons too.

Re: Why do presets universally suck?

It's all so subjective. I agree the word "suck" is a little too much. I like programming my own sounds, when time permits. While I'm spending hours tweaking a sound, I don't actually create music : to me, It's like building a new instrument every time. I'll do this because I have an idea, and I'm ac...
