Re: Allow me to be the first to b***h about the new Macbooks

I've been waiting for new MacBooks for quite a while. I've been wanting to switch on the Mac, but I'm totally deceived... First thing, the ports... Removing Firewire on the MB and removing the 400 on the MBP. Still have no fricken memory card readers. They had to invent some other connector for the ...

Re: The gear I've had during the years...

This makes me have regrets on units I've that I had to sell to survive... Anyways, here ot goes. In the order I got them in the ages I got them! 80's....... Korg Polysix (This was my first synth, I exchange it for a guitar because I was a stupid teenager. Now, I have to live with myself for that!) D...

Re: Are people still using Hardare Samplers?

Still use my E-mu E-Synth, and now I got an old S-550. I tried software samplers, and it's great for really hi-fi pianos and instruments. For synths sounds, it comes back the softare versus hardware I think... So I use hardware samplers mainly for the sound they provide. I find them more musical. Th...

Re: Sniffing on a Roland S550. Experiences?

No s**t! I'm not going to pay 1200 or 1500$ for an EIII. They sound like a ton of bricks, but they can be a pain in the a*s in terms of reliablility. I'll wait... I agree the Mirage most probably sounds cool. I have an ESQm and the architecture is pretty close and it sounds really fat. But I work wi...

Re: Sniffing on a Roland S550. Experiences?

I have a Zip drive I intend to try connecting to the S-550. I've been playing with the S-550 here and there with the 100 floppies I got, where there like 3 f?%n copies of each... I like samplers too a lot. There is no limit with these. I see you have a DSS-1, and I think I might get one eventually.....

Re: Recommended Synth for a Total Beginner

They are all over 200$. Event the X-station goes over that. Seriously, the ESQ1 or SQ80 would be a great choice you can find for that kind of budget. The Korg DW-8000 sounds great, and it's easy to program if you are not new at this. If you want cheap for now, which is what I would start with i you ...

Re: Need help choosing synth rack!! :)

Quicklok make small home studio desks. Maybe take a look there. You can check on a few online music store. I've seen a few at www.musiciansfriend.com.
Whether you buy or not, it might give an idea.

Hope this helps!

Re: Christmas is coming...

He does have a nice rack... of synths. Congrats sam on your new kid. It's an amazing experience. I have two, my wife had a miscarriage on Friday. So I almost got three... I got my S-550 from a guy who is liquidating his stuff to make space for his 2 month old kid. Hope you won't have to do the same,...

Re: best deep warm rich layered lusty pads

I like the idea of layering different "techonologies". I personally like my Wavestation for lush pads. I think it's hard to beat, even if it doesn't have analog filters per se. They sound pretty warm.

Re: 80s synth module!!

Wasn't there a Micron preset called "The80's"? Yes, as it was also on my Ion. Somehow Alesis was able to capture the essence of an entire decade into 1 single preset. People are still wondering how they were able to accomplish such a herculean task. This is extraordinary! Is it monophonic or ...

Re: Sniffing on a Roland S550. Experiences?

All this started a while ago where I decided I'd get a lower-fi sampler. I would have wanted the Emax because of the analog filters in it. I might get one eventually, but the S-550 looked interesting because of the Monitor thing and they seem to be more reliable than the E-mu. I looked at Ensoniq on...

Re: Christmas is coming...

You are lucky. I got sweet notin from my wife for the past 3 years or so. She says she doesn't know what to buy. when I specify exactly what and where, she says it's too complicated. When I think about it, If you would have bought synths with what she's been costing me for the past 12 years... I'd h...

Re: 80s synth module!!

I agree the 80's was "sound". I don't make same sounds today that I did in the 80's, yet I use synths I've had or programmed in those days. Do your research and look for demos here and there on the web. That will help you knowing the synths. And this site has a huge list of descriptions of synths. R...
