Re: roland micro cube amp for synths
I'm only going by online reviews but the Alesis Transactive may be a good option if you need a longer battery life and more power.

Re: Good Command Station ROM's for more drum sounds?
Seems like maybe I should just save up/sell something and go for the Protean Drums. This site has the Composer ROM listed for sale at $50: http://www.eprelectronics.com/store/html/Products/E-mu-Accessories/E-mu~Ensoniq-Sound-ROMS/index.html , though I haven't contacted them to verify that they actu...

Re: Best synth you can buy for $500?
Sequencer not necessary, want good poly, would like analog but it's not expected, or necessary, knobs+sliders would be nice as well. Prefer a lo-fi type of sound, dirty, and with character . Nothing that sounds too clean. Most importantly I'm looking for good value, thanks. Right now, I'm looking a...

Re: Good Command Station ROM's for more drum sounds?
A few other possibilities. World ROM: As pricey if not more so than the Protean Drums ROM ($250 to $300 on Ebay). Excellent and, IMO, still relevant for hand percussion and tuned percussion instruments. Programming the raw waves can yield some otherworldly percussion instruments. Limited standard la...

Re: Your thoughts about rompler synthesis
I think this debate ignores one principle on which all owners of synthesisers, work-stations and ROMplers can agree: Keyboard arrangers suck and their users are filthy rat bastards. Now can we have a group hug? PS - I think AG hit it right on the bullseye. I've never even heard the term ROMpler used...

Re: an alesis micron as midi keyboard for a desktop evolver
Hmmmm...I wonder what you could do with the Micron's sequencer controlling the root note/start trigger on the Evolver's sequencer...Stab Frenzy wrote:The Evolver already has a sequencer, and it's easier to use than the one in the Micron.

Re: what works well with pk-5
Another thought: would you consider a rompler with decent vintage-y presets? Reason I'm asking is that the PK-5 is polyphonic and on top of that you can assign each key to a different note value. This lets you use it to tap out drum/percussion lines with your feet. You can also control drone-y sound...

Re: what works well with pk-5
DSI Desktop Evolver - that's what I use. It's great for "playing" the sequencer.
If you want to really get Taurus-y: Moog Rogue (the Taurus II sound source or so I've heard) or a Voyager rack. That would be really cool.

Re: John Carpenter Synths
Halloween III with Nick Cage? Are the studios contractually obligated to put him in every third remake released??? Sheesh. Oh well, I'll survive so long as they leave my two preciousesss alone: Prince of Darkness (another excellent soundtrack) and In The Mouth of Madness (I'm not always a fan of his...

Re: desktop rack
I hope you eventually get the time to build your own. Non-travelling desktops are insanely easy to make and you can customize them in ways the commercially available ones can't. For cheap travel racks: if by travel, you mean locally in your car, remember that the standard US milk crate is about the ...

Re: Kaoss Pad 2 or mini-KP?
KP-2: A great standalone effects tabletop unit. Versatile, almost an instrument in its own right. Amazing for "shits and grins" sound mangling. Mini-DP: A pocket multi-effects unit with really good sounds and a low price. Perfect for sticking in your pocket when you head out, "just in case" or for q...

Re: Small analog synth recommendations?
i just wonder why you suggest something that is not even out? never tried it but you would suggest it? there's plenty of keyboard already out, at affordable price on the second market. True, true...it's not a thing to buy sight unseen, but the engine is proven and absent the encoder issue [which th...

Re: Small analog synth recommendations?
Like above, I'd also recommend holding out until the Mopho keyboard comes out. If you can extend your budget to around $800, you could also find a used Evolver or Lil'Phatty when the wind's blowing in the right direction. If you are okay with analog-ish : what about the Alesis Micron, Novation X-Sta...
