I just got Year Zero last night, and listened to about half of it on the way to work this morning. Rather than dis/defend TR, I’ll just share my thoughts on what I’ve heard so far: I think the concept album angle is great – does anyone remember the last time a concept album with a sci-fi angle was r...

Hmmm. so this all seems to confirm what I thought - sounds like a risky proposition.

I was wondering since I've seen a lot of them on ebay listed as "not working".

Again thanks for the input.

cheers,

Life expectancy of a Kaoss Pad KP-1

Hi folks, Just a quick question for anyone who's owned the original KP-1 Kaoss Pad. What's the life expectancy of one that's seen semi-regular use? Are there any components that typically fail or break? I'm debating picking up a used one, but I'll pass on it if I don't think it'll last at least anot...

That sounds like a great idea - unfortunately I'm out of town a lot over the next couple of months, so I'm not too available.

Maybe when things settle down a bit in the summer, I'll post a synth-repair road trip Sherbrooke topic and see if we could get something together.

cheers,

Hey, Sorry if I sounded like I was dissing synth techs - didn't mean to. I know if I had a minimoog or something of high value, I would think twice before going to the corner electrician. I just wanted to mention it as an option. I've known a few people over the years who've had gear mod'ed and fixe...

Hey guys, Late response, but yes indeed la musicaire and technopolis are the same store. Basically they sell guitars etc... in the front and the back is all synths, but there are different guys who run each section - so there's always a chance that you show up and the synth guy isn't there. I wouldn...

Hey there, You can try giving these guys a call and ask for a quote: http://www.generation.net/~musicr/index.html I once asked them if they could fix some key problems on a Juno-6 and they quoted me $35/hour as their rate for synth tech work. Also - check around on craigslist - I've a guy who posts ...

Ah ha - the plot thickens - I knew it couldn't be that simple ;-) Actually both those boxes only have midi in/out, and the out will behave like a midi through, depending on how you set the midi parameters. So basically, I guess I will wire them up in a chain, set all the midi channels appropriately,...

Thanks for the tip. I'm just starting out working with midi.

So if I understand correctly, I can set the receive on each machine to a different midi channel, then select the appropriate channel on my controller when I want to switch control to either box. Great.

Thanks, again.

Need suggestion re: live midi hardware set-up

Hi everyone, I’m trying to set up a live midi rig that consists of the following gear: • Yamaha AN200 (groovebox/sequencer) • Roland D2 (groovebox/sequencer) • Midi controller Kybd. Now here’s how I’d like the set up to work: • Both boxes to be midi sync’d • The controller to be able to play synth p...

If you're looking for cheap and portable - it doesn't get cheaper or more portable than the Yamaha SU-10. It's the size of a VHS tape and I'm sure you can find them for under $100. It's pretty lo-fi, though. Think of it as an slightly more modern Casio SK-1 and you'll get the picture. So as long as ...

I wouldn't say I'm a regular user, but I've played around with it for fun and enjoyed the experience. I like the fact that it had build-in delay and distortion effects.

And you can't beat the price - free!

I bought my Moog Rogue in '83, followed by a Juno-6 in '84.
