i am surprised that no one has mentioned the Novation Space Bass. all analog, audio in, cv/gate, and i still see them for under $200. a little more limited the EA-1 (no sequencer), but it does justice to the 303. on top of that its fun as h**l to use and i always get interesting bass and leads out ...

but the Jesus & Mary Chain had played the same venue earlier that night (around 6:30). so you left around 6:50 or so..... too funny... i have seen JAMC a number of times and, to be honest, the shows kept getting longer and longer. i saw NIN open for them in '89 or '90 and half the crowd had no idea...

+1 on the Micron.

also, check out the Alesis MMT8 for sequencing. if you are playing live, its certainly worth looking at. you can get them for under $100 easy. simple to use, easy to edit, and the mutable tracks really are great for live use.

i love SG and own alot of it. in listening back to some of my faves, i am not aware of any synths at all. MBV, JAMC, Swirlies, and other heavies of the genre were all guitar/bass/drums. Chapterhouse had a few tunes with sampled loops on the Whirlpool album and JAMC used a drum machine for Automatic...

you make a good point, tim. the JV1010 has been my "bread and butter" synth for years. i guess it will be going in the Gear For Sale list before too long.

tell me why i should keep my Korg M1

i have had my korg m1 for about 8 years now. i played one back in the late 80s and early 90s, but this particular board has served me well for many years. that said, i have not played this thing in ages. i can sell it for more then twice what i paid for it and i have never been a fan of keeping what...

its not all the difficult. make sure the MCR card is in the top card slot (marked PROG/SEQ DATA) and not in the back slot. then, in global, press #6 and make sure that the write protect is off for cards. then press #9 (still in global), and save the programs/combis. NOTE: as far as i know, you are s...

based on your mp3 link, you should find out what synths were used for the soundtracks to Beat Street and Breakin' and go buy those. no joke...your comp song had all the elements of that early to mid 80's breakdance/pop 'n' lock scene, which is not a bad thing... i agree that there is alot that can b...

Zoom RT-123... i bought mine a few years back for $25 and i still see then for well under $100 (usually in the $50 range). two drum tracks and a mutable bass track with really great kits. and programming is as easy as brushing your teeth. i hear people say nothing but good things about them, but the...

i have been looking into the zoom H4. i hear good and bad things about it, but if you are not into 100% clarity, it may be right up your alley. the H2 is even cheaper if you only need two tracks. I have been using a minidisc and small stereo mic to record sounds out and about and it works great. you...

its not that i want/need to upgrade. its a GREAT price for a MPC1000 and i figured i would look into what it can do for me that the 2000 cant. it would mean an end to SCSI and ZIP drives, and i would get digi outs and USB connections (pros), but i have seen on here that the pads just are not the sam...
