Re: Jx8p or Prophet 600?

if you love the tone of the Roland I would go for that...thats the important issue...actually the P600 I found pretty limited...and I didnt like the build or the feel of the digital implementation - felt slow...however as said you do get full blooded VCO analogue sound on a budget... The Roland will...

Re: First Analog Synth : Prophet 600?

Reliability can be a problem with P600 They're not any more failure-prone than any other 20+ year-old synth, and considerably less so than some (Polysix with unchanged battery, Juno 106, etc.) Granted, it could get expensive if you have to replace a bunch of the CEM chips, but I've only had one (VC...

Re: First Analog Synth : Prophet 600?

Hello all, new to the forum, but I've visited this site regularly looking up synths. Great site. Anywho, I'm looking at getting my hands on my first analog synthesizer. My first synthesizer that I've been learning on for quite a while now is KORG MS2000b which I love playing. I like playing warm am...

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread

for anyone interested - here is a good link for the charges involved in importing a SEM to the UK form US. http://www.dutycalculator.com/dc/45228-import-duty-rate-for-Tom-Oberheim-SEM-is-3.2/ Its interesting how the total is £742 whilst Schneidersburo charge £830...bad thing is I want to go down to...

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread

Looking at getting a patch-point SEM. I'm in the UK. Getting one from SchneidersBuro works out over £800. In the US, the price equates to less than £600. I know some American musicians who come here regularly on musician's visas. I'm thinking I could ask them to bring one over for me as one of thei...

Re: MemoryMoog Or OBXa ????

I dunno - how bigger important do you place on reliability? As far as I know the OB-Xa is not bad but the Memorymoog plus Im afraid has a terrible reputation... This isnt just internet slander either - I was talking to an ex-Moog employee from during the 80s just a week or so ago and he said the des...

SEM Modifications?

Does anybody know of any online Mod descriptions for the SEM? Ive heard there is a divide down Sub-Osc modification around but not found it...The patch point Mod for the original Im not so bothered by as I will be getting that sorted anyways - more like extra LFO/Env/Osc mods...anybody ever tried an...

Re: Moog Voyager v Studio Electronics SE1 v MFBsynth2/Kraftz

the MFB stuff does sound quite Moog-like. Just the quality of tone is not quite there - but its really pretty good for the money. I havea kraftzwerg and I had to do a bit of testing to determine that my Moog Source had superior tone-but yeah the Moog Oscillators are softer and more musical whereas t...

Re: Moog Source vs Oberheim SEM

Solderman - if you had a minute and its not too much hassle - I would love it if you could cook up a few basic demos showing eg a Saw + Square wave bass and lead thru the 12db SEM, then 24db MF101 and then same but with some drive? Would be great to hear how it sounds...Ive realised I might be able ...

Re: Moog Source vs Oberheim SEM

thanks dude. problem I have is I dont have space in my set-up for the kraftzwerg, SEM AND a MF101 + CP-251...Im not mad about the Kraftzwerg but it does give me Noise and extra Osc and LFO/Env to play with...plus a 24db filter thats prob not as good as the MF101...I dunno but I guess I already got t...

Re: Moog Source vs Oberheim SEM

yes good point about the splitter! I was thinking I could just control the MFB via MIDI on a duplicate channel but prob CV would be better and I can just make a cable for that... I didnt realise using the MF101 would be such a hassle but I can see you are right - the attenuators and mixer are necess...

Re: Moog Source vs Oberheim SEM

thanks that is helpful - yeah I was thinking about the MF101 but I did hope that you could just directly plug in the env CV and Audio in and it would work...Im not too worried about VCF Key tracking...I think the Kraftzwerg filter is actually quite decent and moog-like so I could use that in the mea...

Moog Source vs Oberheim SEM

I do love the quality tone of my Moog Source - however I find it a little limited certainly in comparison with a new patch panel SEM which can do PWM and multimode filtering which the Source cannot. From the sounds of it the new SEM has a similar quality tone and size to the Osc - my one concern is ...
