If you’re just starting out I’d get the fastest PC laptop you can afford, a gig of RAM, a decent USB soundcard, a small MIDI controller like a Novation and a copy of Reason. Reason isn’t as CPU intensive as a normal VST host and a handful of softsyths which would be ideal for a laptop and from what ...

I think building a PC is like beefing up a Japanese sports car which requires a little knowledge and expertise where buying a Mac is like buying a Porsche where all the performance is done for you as standard which of course comes with a higher price tag. You just made me cry. Comparing a Mac to a ...

I think its either a Devilfish mod on the 303 or most likely simply put thru an overdrive pedal. My Revolution has the overdrive connected to the resonance amount (similar to a Devilfish) to keep an even volume at high and low settings and sounds much more crunchy than that demo. Will have to put so...

any more ideas anyone? many years ago I had an MC80 for a brief time to use with my VS-840 and my 1st AN1X. If I remember correctly the MC80 is more orientated for linear recording rather than loops which is where things might be going wrong, either way both got traded in soon after as the combo ju...

When I (can be bothered) program FM sounds I find a single exponential curve starting from the lowest note (set your center key point to this and ignore the lower curve) and gently rolling off towards the higher range is a good starting point for most modulators as the DX’s limited resolution really...

Quasimidi 309 all the way! Best ROM 808 anywhere and you can do tons more with the sound. Not quite as warm and toppy as the real thing but a very good alternative.

You certainly get more bang for your buck with a PC tho if I was a little more flush I would have got a Mac and kept some of my hair when building/optimising my AMD dual core DAW. I think building a PC is like beefing up a Japanese sports car which requires a little knowledge and expertise where buy...

A little bass heavy on the mix a times but an excellent set! 8) Kinda reminded me of some classic trance/techno mix tapes I got around ’94 by Colin Dale and Frank De Wolf. You should check out Ceephax Acid Crew (Squarepushers bro) as he uses a lot of old school gear in his old school styli live sets...

Loud music is the bane of my existence. I don't understand this new trend of making everything MASSIVE and loud as f**k. There's no reason for it. If the music is too quiet in your stereo, turn it up. There is still something called headroom which really needs to be preserved in order to create a b...

Are you excited?

What the opinions with you folks regarding enhancers, exciters, sonic maximizers ect? Are they an unnecessary evil to compensate for bad mixing and poor desk eq or are they an essential part of the post production process? If you use one what do you use and where do you use it e.g. to enhance certai...

Is the MC80 is just outputting MIDI clock/start-stop and not MTC? MTC tends to mess with my 309.

Jarre’s Ethnicolor 1 on the ST game Captain Blood first got me hooked into electronic music which ironically and topically was also the same track that got me into synths years later after an epiphany whilst on a certain mind bending substance. An awesome track that still sounds years ahead even now...
