Re: is 'new analog' better or worse 'old analog'?

You tend to find it’s the instabilities of the circuits that give analogue synths their desirable character and hence why most older analogues with discrete circuits tend to have a more organic sound than modern analogues as the components and designs get more stable and efficient as time goes on. T...

Re: Do you aknowledge the importance of dance music

Kraftwerk didn't invent electro (they did experimental synth pop) it was Afrike Baambaata who nicked the beat from Computer World with the melody of Trance Europe Express and put it in the context of the underground club music of Detroit which went down a storm. Kraftwerk didn't mind this too much a...

Re: Poll: your musical influence for interest in synthesizers

At high school I was into Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Yello when everyone else was into Guns and Roses. At collage I was into FSOL, Orbital, Prodigy when most were into Nivarna. I think it all depends on how old you were when you got into electronic music but the fact of the matter is dance ...

Re: How and why does the Quasimidi Sirius sound so good?

The Quasimidi filters are still one of the best digital filters I've ever come across even by today's standards, the overdrive is very harmonically rich without sounding raspy and makes anything sound dirty in a good way. Not the most hi-fi of filters but easily holds it's own against real analogues...

Re: Do you aknowledge the importance of dance music

[My definition of techno includes beatless ambient (Testou Innoue, Gas, etc...) as well as experimental (IDM, 90's). Then you're just basically clueless if you count beatless ambient and experimental as techno music. For example, a whole lot of "beatless ambient" records that have been released dur...

Re: Do you aknowledge the importance of dance music

You'll find big find dance/techno producers who use analogue synths these days tend to record loads of tweaks and loops then edit it all down later. Modern dance music is more about creative digital editing and production than original synth sounds these days unless your Ceephax or RDJ sneaking out ...

Re: Do you aknowledge the importance of dance music

Could it be said the TB303 sparked the analogue revival? Ok the US technically created dance/techno music using disco loops and ripping off Kraftwerk but it's mainly in Europe where the culture thrived and dance music although not as progressive as it one was is still by far the most popular form of...

The main problem with both version ser the tin contact ribbon connectors which wern't intended to last 10yrs let alone 20! Linntronics don't upgrade this as far as I'm aware but Oakley Sound Systems can do a gold connector ribbon upgrade and my friend's MM has been solid ever since although I'm told...
