Re: Gear for techno/house/minimal ? (newbie)

you seem to have a quite a bit of gear so maybe you'd be better off selling the lot and getting 1 or 2 really good bits and slowly building up from there. :) This sounds like the best idea, especially since it doesn't sound like you've made much of a connection with, or time investment with your cu...

Re: Synth n00b desperate for help..again.

Hmm, I'd try and stretch a bit further than a CS2x if I was you, I had a CS1x (basically the same synth with less polyphony and ROM) and I found it quite irritating. I think the user interface is badly handled (only in my opinion tho) and those nice sounds that you might have heard on demos are only...

Re: Synth n00b desperate for help..again.

Take a look at the Yamaha CS6x, good synth for natural and synthy stuff, cheap and expandable with different synthesis types when you feel like trying something new. Handy little sampler too if you fancied exploring that. The Roland XP30 wouldn't be a bad place to start either, but maybe not as much...

Re: Which synthesizer(s) do you regret getting or selling

Regret buying- CS1x and DPM3, promised so much, but didn't get much use out of, lesson learned and now I tend to buy more focused gear now. Also spent way too much on my maxed out MPC2000xl, when I'm sure the MPC1000 would have suited me much better, liked the pads better on the 1000 as well, not a ...

Re: Looking for a synth

I know it's not a synth and it doesn't have mini keys but I think this is one of the most fun cheap keyboards in years and it sounds far better than anyone has any right to expect. Very portable too...

Re: Korg Triton Classic - any good?

At the risk of a stupid question, would you say the sounds are still good/relevant for current dance music? I don't think the sounds are particularly great for dance, but probably better for some styles over another, esp. if you were to get into using the very capable effects engine with its sample...

Re: Rank synths based on best presets

Funny how something like M1's Universe sold that synth amazingly well, with its (seemingly) amazing complexity but was really just two layered samples and after you've heard the Lore sample a few times then you really can't use it anywhere else cos the M1 didn't really have the means to cover it up....

Re: Rank synths based on best presets

Here it is, courtesy of Legowelt: http://www.moosleybay.com/superjx/jxsoundtrack.mp3 http://www.xs4all.nl/~awolfe/studiodjx10.htm Funny, I remember it sounding a lot better than that, full of ananlogue body but with top end digital interest, one of the JX10 standouts. It just doesn't come across th...

Re: Making Some House in My Studio...

Didn't think I would enjoy the drums on this as I'm not a huge fan of those drum machines, but I liked it a great deal. The whole feel reminded me of early house remixes, late 80's before 808 and 909 became so engrained in that sound. Reminded me most of the Pet Shops Boys Introspective album. The r...

That's a beautiful preset, but the JX10 version is even nicer.

Re: Favorite Synth for Bass Sounds

Have you tried setting the SH-2 's VCA to Gate instead of Env and using a short release for VCF? Can't try it at the mo, I've been away from home for 2 months on a research project for uni, so my synths will be getting nice and dusty as we speak. I have used gating on the SH2 and I still feel it is...

Re: Favorite Synth for Bass Sounds

For me it's the SH2 for growls and heaviness, but my Juno 60 gets used a bit too for a lighter electro feel, or when the SH2's envelopes just aren't fast enough. Wow! You're either very demanding, or your SH-2 needs some service! :D My experience of my SH-2, and others' anecdotal reports of theirs,...

Re: Which synth should I get for $700 or less...

Wouldn't say the Juno 60 or 106 are great lead synths, the alpha Juno is capable of interesting things tho, but require work so maybe not plug in and play like you asked for. MS2000 does great leads, the lead presets aren't to my taste, but it only takes the spin of a knob to get something nice. The...
