Re: Which synthesizer(s) do you regret getting or selling

regret buying: Roland D2. it's like a bouncy ball encased in a 4-foot cube of concrete: you will never have fun with this. Roland Fantom-S. wonderful workstation, just not at all my thing. my second-to-last attempt at an all-hardware studio. it's still lying around in beautiful shape if anyone's dow...

Re: Yamaha are not really making any synths anymore

i did always find it curious that Yamaha never produced a true successor to the AN1x. the numbers must have just been that low.

MPC500 -> MPC1000

Revolution -> x0xb0x
DX200 -> AN200
microKORG -> MS2000
EA-1 (x2) -> no clue
ER-1 -> no clue
EM-1 -> Quasimidi 309?
EMX-1 -> Spectralis?
ESX-1 -> ES-1

Re: Fattest kick from synth

almost all of my favorite hand-made kicks come from my Monomachine -- it does short and clicky, or deep and boomy quite well. also, it's not as flexible, but the EMX is capable of a reasonable 909-ish kick using just the single saw osc type.

Re: Strangest thing you ever found inside a synth

Speaking of factory boxes. I was opening a behringer keyboard at amp box at guitar center one day. I cut the tape, flipped the box over to set the amp on the counter and a home-made razor blade shiv fell out on to the counter top. It was a progressive razor blade that had some foam tape wrapped aro...

Re: Strangest thing you ever found inside a synth

I think if this was a contest you'd win for sure you're telling me! i first started taking the thing apart in my living room, since that's where everyone was hanging out. i took the end caps off and peered down the length of the keyboard with a flashlight, announcing to everyone, "i don't know, the...

Re: Strangest thing you ever found inside a synth

just bought a PC2x for $25, brought it home, opened it up, and had the pleasure of removing 5 living black widows and about a dozen dead ones, along with about a half-pound of solid, caked-on (or is that "in") dirt. need a power supply before i can see if it works, but considering the boards all loo...

Re: Jomox M-Base 11

so it really is more a MKII than a new product. still, looks like they listened to some of the complaints/requests and responded with this. i'll be interested in what this will do for the 01, as i don't really have need of the enhancements offered in the 11. here's hoping it chips down the price of...

Re: Boss DR-202: any thoughts on it (especially the synth/bass)?

It would make a good battery powered companion to the Microkorg, especially with the external sequence track. that's what i was thinking. it just seems like a handy little box that doesn't get much attention. sure the sounds aren't likely to be of the highest fidelity, but a lot of "wimpy" lo-fi de...

Re: Boss DR-202: any thoughts on it (especially the synth/bass)?

If you only paid $50 for it, you'd probably be better off keeping it. My advice is that if you don't have anything that overlaps the majority of the sounds it provides(liking them helps) then I wouldn't even think of getting rid of it. Don't forget, you could make it a dedicated beat box to be sent...
